Marketing Evaluation
1-What was your item of publicity?
My item of publicity is Twitter. Me and Demi shared the Twitter page however we posted on separate days because there was no point in doing two separate twitter pages. (I have taken screen shots and posted them on tumblr)
2-Give your ticket sale information and discuss which performances were more popular than others and possible reasons why.
Thursday Evening: 77/155 = 49%
Friday Matinee: 54/155 = 34%
Friday Evening: 99/155 = 63%
Overall roughly we have sold about 49% of our tickets (230 out of 465). The reason that we haven’t sold that many tickets for the Friday Matinee performance is because we were supposed to send out school packs to get group of children in however because the school packs were sent out too late, the schools replied saying there wasn’t enough time for them. I believe Friday evening is quite popular because parents and family aren’t at work and it’s the start of the weekend. I believe we have also done quite well for Thursday and I think it hasn’t done as well as Friday because families with Children will have school in the morning so they might not want their children to go to bed too late however evening performances are still more popular than Matinee performances.
3- Compare the data from both productions and give reasoning for the outcome. Could it be the differences in marketing strategy or is it the production target audience?
I’m not too sure about Rent when it comes to the data on how they marketed Rent or how many tickets they sold however I am sure we have done similar to them. For example they had flyers and posters stuck around, they flyered on the same day we did. However with Rent I know they don’t have a wider target audience whereas we do. Rent have had to put an age limit for the audience who come to see their show because of the content whereas we’ve adapted our play for a bigger target audience.
4- What elements of your strategy worked well. Explain fully and give reasoning as to why
I think one of the strategies which worked the most was the ‘flash mob’. We only did this last week however Joe, Declan and Market went into town and they were doing a few stunts in character and the public were really captured by this. We had some really good feedback for example a woman said their stunt with the bat looked really real. And I believe if we had more time we should’ve done this again because I think it was really capturing the audience.
Flyers – I believe through flyering we have sold quite a few tickets as well. We have put flyers up in a lot of places and we have handed out a lot of flyers so I feel like these have really captured the public eye.
5- What went less well? Give full reasoning and description
I think the Twitter page didn’t go that well. We have on Twitter about 30 followers and most of the people who favourite and retweet the tweets are our fellow cast members. However I have 2,000 followers on Twitter so I retweet a lot of our posts to get it to a larger target audience.
I also think the facebook wasn’t very successful because they didn’t post that much so people were forgetting about the facebook page.
6-Give ways in which you would improve or change your strategy
School Packs - I think one of the biggest changes we could've made to our strategy would be to have made and send the school packs much earlier. We left them too late so schools ended up telling us it was too late because of all the paper work. Twitter - We should've got Twitter to a bigger amount of people, it didn't do very well at all so we're not entirely sure if it even sold any tickets. We should've done it earlier and posted more days throughout the week and we should've found people to follow who were relevant to the play. Flash mob - We were gonna do a flash mob but it turned out to be more of an improvisation lazzi between characters. We should of organised it earlier so people could of been available to do it. Ensure that you use correct data and explain everything within the evaluation. Try and think outside the box, don’t just give straight forward answers.
