1-What was your item of publicity?

Schools

I did this with Emily so we both were in charge of trying to get schools to come and see One Man Two Guvnors

2-Give your ticket sale information and discuss which performances were more popular than others and possible reasons why.

On the three performances we have sold 77 tickets on Thursday Night, 54 for Friday afternoon and 99 for Friday. This means Friday night has sold better, I think this is because it is the start of the weekend and so more people are unlikely to have work the next day so can stay up and watch a show later as they know they won’t be over tried. I think they also be thinking with it being the third and final performances the actors are going to put more effort in to make the final one the best show.

3- Compare the data from both productions and give reasoning for the outcome. Could it be the differences in marketing strategy or is it the production target audience?

I am unaware of the Rent ticket sales I know that they are going well with ticket sales selling similar numbers to One Man Two Guvnors. However with the Pomegranate Theatre being bigger than the Rose Theatre this could also be bad as this means they need to sell more than we do, so this could show that we have sold better. I believe the main reason for the added audience is because a comedy play has more of a audience range to it than a musical about AIDS. Rent has less range to their audience as for example One Man can be presented from ages 16-80 as it has the words humor for the younger audience and the physical comedy for the older audience. So I feel this has led to One Man making more of a profit than Rent.

4- What elements of your strategy worked well. Explain fully and give reasoning as to why

I feel the theme of the play has helped massively with the marketing as Comedy is something a lot of people are open to watching and means we can advertise more to different people. For example when I was flyering in town I had more success with the younger aged people where as when I was bag packing I had more success with the older aged. Also my marketing stratgey schools did work well, while we didn’t get any schools in for One Man many of the schools were interested in the schools due to it being a comedy and wanted to be able to see the play.

5- What went less well? Give full reasoning and description

I feel the school pack didn’t work very well. This is because we took a long time in making it as we all got confused on who was working on it as one minute it was me then Emily then Brooke then all three of us so we didn’t really get onto making it in time for schools to responded to it. I also feel a few schools would not be interested in the play as it has a lot of adult humor in it as well as family humor so they have be hasient to see it thinking its inappropriate for their students possibly.

6-Give ways in which you would improve or change your strategy

One thing I believe for sure we can improve on was getting a school pack out earlier has this could have led to one or two schools coming to see it as I know that Dronfield Henry Fanshawe was interested as was Swanwick Hall School. This means our sells on the Friday afternoon performance would have sold better overall as we would have had schools of atleast 20 students or so buying tickets. I would also try and contact more schools as we focused a lot on Chesterfield schools and Amber Valley Schools, were me Emily and Joe G come from. I feel could have targeted more schools Sheffield way.

Business/Marketing Contigency Plans

One Man Two Guvnors We are going to be doing a flash mob in Chesterfield Market Square. This will led to more ticket sells. We will need atleast a decent size of people to be able to perform some scenes. All of this has already been arranged. We may also do a Car Wash. We will need water for washing the cars. We will need a decent number of people taking part so we can get more cars washed. This will led to us having a good amount of profit from the car wash. We would have find a good place to do a car wash and may have to hire a certain spot or place. We could do a Cake/Cookie sell. Once we find someone to make them we should have enough to sell out and raise money for One Man with this. We will need to Check wether or not we would be allowed to do this in town if not could do in College.

My Marketing Role for One Man Two Guvners and Distances for the Schools to Travel

I am working on Schools with Emily. With this it is my job to come up with a list of schools that we believe would be interested in seeing the play for the Friday afternoon show to full the 100-200 seats we have. One way of doing this that I have used was The idea of asking all the people who woulds like their school to come see the play. Also I personally know a teacher at my old school so I asked him if the school would be interested.

SWANWICK HALL SCHOOL

This a map showing the distance from Swanwick hall School to The Rose Theatre where the show is performed. It will only take 55 minutes for the school to take a coach up so the school could make up tho the show. I know for a fact that the school is interested due to me speaking to a teacher face to face about it.

RIPLEY ACADEMY

This maps shows the distance between The school and the theatre. Tho the time slightly longer than Swanwick Hall i personally feel this distance is not too long and I Believe the Drama department would be very much interested in coming to see the show.

DRONFIELD HENRY FANSHAWE SCHOOL

This shows the distance from Henry Fanshawe to The Theatre. Outta of the three schools I have shown this is the least taking only about 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Also the school being located in Dronfield which is very close to chesterfield will mean they may be more likely come to see and they know the theatre is close and would be useful for the drama department.

What Is The Theme of The Event?

The event is a comedy play, One Man Two Guvnors, which is a moderinzed verison of commedia del arte and the play One Servant Two Masters. The Comedy is likely to sell better due to more people likely to come to the play and buy more tickets so we will likely get more audience nemebers. This means the play is more likely to be successful.

I believe using the theme we can get extra sells, because as mentioned above more people are interested in comedy. I feel in all of our marketing we need to make it clear the theme as this means the marketing tactic will be seen more by people. This is especially true with market tactics such as Posters and flyers as they will be seen from massive amount of people and so putting across the theme of the show comedy and a modernized commedia del arte means more people will think more about the show knowing they are in for a laugh. This connects to the older audience as they will take more notice of flyers than social media which will be aimed more at the younger generation.as they will be on Facebook and twitter a lot and therefore be possibly seen requalrly.

Marketing Research

Marketing Research I have chosen to write about Qdos and the pomegranate theatre. Qdos are unique and have their own way of doing things whereas the pomegranate has a very common way of marketing. I believe that they are two companies are extremely different for many reasons one being the pomegranate sells individual tickets to members of the public. Qdos creates sells entire tours or workshops to commissioners in local education authorities, colleges or voluntaries organisations to help the arts funding.

Qdos performances have practical dance theatre workshops. Qdos also has practical dance theatre workshops that are used to explore different issues and different themes in more depth. This is does to gain more knowledge in a creative way so more people understand and it also gives Qdos a unique style. Qdos is very unique as it is very different compared to any other companies they are very open and have different skills to help people in different ways, being so unique helps them become more discovered and makes people intrigued in finding out more about them. They also don’t make you pay for their workshops whereas the pomegranate theatre do. Qdos creates was originally found in 1995. Since Qdos was created around the time of 1995 they didn’t use social media so wat they did was ring people up individually they also walked around to find out if anyone was interested. They work with people in hospitals, prisoners, schools, colleges and residential homes. They raise awareness the company’s awareness by working with past students to help promote, they also keep in contact with schools so they can help them promote. They have many different marketing techniques and some of them would be flyers, news booklets, meeting local contacts, partnerships, newspapers, radio interviews and many more. They try and use the radio as much as possible as its free and lots of people listen to the radio. They now use social media such as Facebook and Twitter and have a website which gives a lot of information about what Qdos is. They market themselves and are funded by coalfields singing choir and also the big lotto they also give any profits they make to charity. Qdos creates aim to sell tours to schools at no cost to the school or the students so they have to target individual advises ad commissioners within region and local authority who have the choice to make large spending decisions, this is how they build up relationships with different companies. Marketing research is needed in Qdos creates this is because they need people to know who they are and what they do. They need to reach out to different companies to get discovered and reach out to different commissions to pay for the plays to be delivered in schools. Qdos needs good reasons to be able to put on plays and workshops.

The pomegranate theatre aims to sell tickets to the general public. They target people who are already visited which is the older generation. They also do target students in college as it isn’t far away. They also sometimes use try and use the Derbyshire times and Local magazines, for a while now they have been using social media like Facebook, Twitter sometimes they work when using paid advertisements but sometimes they find they lose money when using twitter. When marketing they look at previous costumers and see what they have previously watched and then think weather that customer would enjoy the upcoming show. Theatres still use leaflets, brochures and posters which appeal more to the older generation and they are the majority of people who attend shows so that’s why a lot of theatres still use that approach. The pomegranate has recently found out that sending out a brochure then sending a postcard a couple of weeks after and closer to the show day gets more costumes to go to the show as sometimes people skip past the brochure in the post. The pomegranate theatre has a membership deal which means you get priority when picking seats as you get to pick a day or two before its put out to the general public. They’re planning to make better deals and offers in the upcoming years before they do so they want to get more people involved. The pomegranate theatre is building relationships with their costumers by giving them the option to have a membership they also don’t consistently send emails and brochures only when they think that specific costumer will be interested. They also build relationships with different theatres they’re with the winding wheel and have recently paired with the Casa Hotel which is close to both theatres. The pomegranate theatre isn’t a charity it is funded by the council and is hoping to be self-funded by 2020, they also only have a very small marketing team of two people. They like to keep up with social media as they believe in 10 years or nobody will necessarily will want brochures and everything will be on social media. They are still making sure they interest the older audience and are trying to interest a new audience by having a cinema. They have only just recently added the cinema to try and bring in a new audience. The pomegranate theatre uses a traditional marketing method they’re needed to raise awareness of what’s happening at the theatre they have been designing new ways to attract new audiences by keeping up with social media and using that as a new marketing method and also use brochures to keep their existing audiences.

The pomegranate uses a variate of different marketing methods and materials they have to reach bigger audiences that Qdos creates as they target individual companies. The pomegranate has to use many different marketing methods to bring in enough people and a range of different people to keep filling the theatre. Qdos creates however doesn’t sell tickets because they know younger people won’t buy their tickets and get involved. They know that taking their performances to schools will work for them they also know they have to build relationships with a smaller amount of people who have great authority with help them.

Marketing Presentation: What is the target audience?

I think we have decided as a group that our target audience would be for teenagers from fifteen years of age and onwards because the humour is simplistic and easy to grasp but there are some jokes of sexual humour which younger viewers may find uncomfortable and their parents may argue that this wasn’t the play they were expecting. For example, when Francis came uninvited to Pauline and Alan’s engagement party and meets Dolly for the first time, Dolly says ‘I know exactly what he’s after and if he continues like this, he’s gonna get it’. Young audience members may be confused about this particular line or they could feel distressed or uncomfortable especially if their parents attend our performance too. Despite simple comedy elements such as slapstick which is the most important part of the play or even the kitchen scene where Francis is trying to make sure that his two governors don’t meet and try to serve them their meals which is very comical, another part of it is based on humour lightly involving men’s privates. For example, Francis gate crashing Pauline and Alan’s wedding and grabbing onto Alan’s dad’s crotch when he teaches him a lesson about clowns. Not only this, but the theme itself is based around gangsters who can be seen as very scary people in those times (like the Kray Twins who were famous for their love of robberies and assaults) and so can be portrayed in tense scenes such as during the ending where Charlie and Alan have a knife fight. I don’t think children under the ages of fifteen should be shown this much physical and harmful action because they are at the age where watching something can influence them a great deal so showing this level of crime and action that can happen in everyday life isn’t the best idea as it potentially could interest them in the future and persuade them to learn more. To reinforce this, as it is a light hearted play with not a lot of things being taken seriously, it could leave the young viewers under fifteen thinking that this level of behaviour is acceptable in this world and can be treated as a joke. In conclusion, we decided that the suitable audience would be members who are 15 and over because I think this is the age where they are mature enough to know what’s right and wrong, feel comfortable enough to watch jokes such as when Francis holds Alan’s dad’s crotch, people kissing on stage and who generally enjoys a comic play all round. It could also be a chance to introduce to the younger audience members about what it was like in the 60’s, mostly focussing on gangsters and the treatment of women in a fun way and so they can see how much things have changed from then over time. To achieve this and to make sure the historical meanings and comedy elements are balanced out, we need to exaggerate all of our characters using our physical, vocal and facial expressions to make this as stereotypical and eye catching as possible especially in the moments where there are many humorous opportunities and situations as well as keeping the main plot and action scenes tense and chilling to show that even though this play is fictional, the history is truthful. Therefore, people can enjoy and laugh at the play but by the end, should learn something from it too. As for the older members of the audience, I think they will appreciate the simplistic comedy ideas like slapstick as well as how the gangsters are portrayed, how fearful they were of each other and the people who were associated with them who in this case, are characters such as Pauline and possibly Dolly.

Along the lines of our marketing strategy, because of our wide audience range, it is important to cover all methods to reach the young audience members and the slightly older members. Therefore, for the younger audience, I think we should create an Instagram and Facebook page. Instagram so we can post backstage rehearsals including stunt sequences in the making, final outfit plans or endless ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ posters that include the dates and times, and a Facebook page so we can add people that might be interested in the show in hope that they will make their friends and family aware about it too or even share it on their profile. For the older audience members, we would use flyers, brochures and word of mouth as a lot of the elderly population don’t use nor are interested in getting social media accounts.
