kageyama INSISTS on teaching you volleyball.
he loves it and he loves you so.... :-D
you’re very nervous. you’ve never been good with balls!!
it’s simple. he wants you to set a ball he throws at you!
kags demonstrates once for you, and catches your eye afterwards.
the gleam in his eye because of a good serve set fades as he sees you biting your lip, flinching ever so slightly when you hear the ball fall to the floor behind you.
have i mentioned that you’re very nervous?
“babe, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. i’m sorry for dragging you here without asking-”
“it’s okay!” the words leave your mouth faster than your brain can comprehend them.
your brain is saying NO!!!! BALL = BAD!!!! but your heart is telling you-
you want to do this. you’ve seen him play countless times, yet you are always left breathless after a match.
he’s not a different person on the court, but instead a heightened version of himself.
you love watching him play—he’s always focused; his gaze intensified. even from the stands you feel as if you can hear his heart racing.
and when he wins, you can feel your chest burst, and you beam in pride. you scream and shout so loudly that you lose your voice for the next week and a half.
and when he hugs you after, sweaty and all, you feel his excitement.
you want to understand that, to understand him. and also to understand why he was spending more time on volleyball than with you grrr >:(
“i want to do it.” you smile reassuringly at him.
he’s usually not physical in public but he can’t help but pull you in for a hug. he looks around to see if any of his teammates are around though... he’s shy 👉🏻👈🏻
you bury your face in his chest.
before he pulls away he gives you a kiss on the forehead.
“this is why i love you.”
“okay.” kageyama asks, “you ready?”
he throws the ball up in the air towards you, and you feel time slowing down.
as if you’re in a sports anime, you can hear the clock ticking in your head as the volleyball approaches you.
this is fine, you think, almost smiling before-
you close your eyes and hit the ball, opening it to see kageyama spiking it over the net, and it landing with a loud BAM!
kags turns to you, mouth slightly agape.
not caring if anyone is there, he picks you up and spins you
“it was really great! not too high, not too low, not too close to the net but not too far either- how did you do that?”
you flush red, partially from the praise and partially from the intensity of kageyama’s gaze.
“i, um, just wanted to get the ball away from me so i um... hit it away?”
a hearty laugh, proud and amused.
“you’re a cutie, you know that?”
“y/n!!! wow!!! that was amazing! you should play more!!! then we can form a team with nishinoya and call ourselves the shorties!!! with a little training, you could be better than kageyama-”
he is cut off by kageyama throwing a ball at his head)

you two happen to see some teens playing beach volleyball and they recognise daichi as the captain of the best high school team in the region!!!
“i want to go to karasuno! i’m in junior high now!” “me too! me too!” “and me! i’m a wing spiker like you!”

he scratches his head and smiles at them
“if you put in effort, i’m you will all be able to come to karasuno! so work hard, and make your future school proud!”
they all nod eagerly, and asks him to join them for a round
he’s looking at you like are you sure? is this not invading date time? i know we only get so much time together because of training... so it’s up to you

how could you deprive your baby of playing volleyball?
he grins and joins the group, serving first.
a part of him wants to let them win, but another part of him wants to show off to you that he’s really GREAT.
ANYWAYS after a while, one of the girls playing asks you to join her team because daichi, even though he definitely isn’t playing at his 100%, is still basically trashing them
seeing daichi play stirs up a sense of competitiveness in you, so of course you say yes!
daichi is in the back row, and you swear just the other day when you came to meet him at practice you saw yamaguchi doing a weird air ball thing.
do beach volleyballs work the same way i’m assuming so
you take a deep breath and grin at daichi, before throwing the volleyball up, doing a jump and hitting it!
you tilt your head to look at daichi... who failed to receive your serve!
“YES!” you fist pumped the air, high fiving your team mates.
you stick your tongue out playfully at daichi, who laughs at the jokes that you’re better than him at volleyball
you both are strolling arm in arm, the sea breeze blowing lightly against your faces.
“y/n... how did you do that serve just now? have you been practicing?”
“no, i just watched yamaguchi do it last week. it looked simple enough.”
daichi turns towards you.
“wah, my girlfriend is a natural!”
i love headpats??? and daichi seems like such a headpatting guy??? like dad???
“maybe i should get you to join the girl’s volleyball team. we’d be... what do they call it? a power couple!”
