Deadpool is the only thing stopping me from completely hating Deadpool
About a year ago I was salivating at the idea of a Deadpool game. "It's gonna be great because we're gonna have a ton of cameo's and probably even references to other marvel games"
I was so young...and so stupid...
Watch out for the head kick joe... (ufc undisputed 3)
Ok, lets get this straight off the bat. this is not a formal review, (you can read those anywhere) This is more of an opinion column. as with all the games featured here. I'm going to start off by saying this game takes a huge dump on ufc 2010. But only manages to get a hard fought unanimous decision over EA MMA.
I think once the boys at thq found out about the EA game back in 2010, they were probably ordered (by dana white) to completely suspend production to watch and see what EA did.
They really watched the message boards then probably played the EA game and saw what the fans responded the most to then implemented that. like the submission system. everyone hated the shine method ( I know I lost a controller to it) but they tweaked the EA sub system a bit and made it their own. While hearing Mike Goldberg explain things to you as if you are as dumb as he is detracts from the experience I would strongly advise you to implement the mute button on your TV. Another addition is the simulation stats which were something EA did great. in this game you need to really time your shots and make sure you're not just spamming hooks... well unless you play on default.
I've dabbled into career mode as well... honestly its the only thing I play. With so many of my favorite fighters ACTUALLY in the ufc now there are few people left to make so I have to make fictional characters like Baki Hanma. next I'll probably make a character from tekken or something. The career mode is cool but it's a little bit harder to get skill points now. They have a variety of mini games that you can do to switch things up (granted I suck at like 70% of them) It's still pretty fun. The other cool thing is the fact you get to join a camp permanently. You build up loyalty to that camp and you'll get access to learning more moves. An added touch would be if you got your loyalty high enough you could have one of the premier fighters from that camp walk out with you. (i'm just nitpicking at this point)
overall it's a solid game, I'm not much for online play outside of MMO's so don't expect any comments on that, but if you're an MMA fan this is definitely a solid buy.
also if you have a game (new or old) that you think I should be playing tell me about it in the comments below (I'm an rpg, fighting, and action adventure guy with occasional sports title thrown in.)
