I think I was 15 years old when I went to my first punk show. I was nervous and intimidated by all these huge dudes in spiky leather jackets hurling themselves around the pit with abandon. I was enjoying the music and the show but wasn’t sure if I really “fit in” (i usually wore hand-me-down blue jeans and plain shirts, I think it was even collared lol, so I probably looked as out of place as I felt). During a song, the mosh pit abruptly stopped and people were looking around on the floor, using their phones as flash lights. The band stopped the song and said they would pause until the person in the pit found their inhaler. Those same guys I found so scary helped others up, donated their own phones for light or held people back as they searched. 

Let me tell you, for a young insecure kid with asthma, that made quite the impression. So yes,

Compassion is punk-rock as hell.
