Cette œuvre est une huile sur toile intitulée "Homère et son guide", peinte en 1874 par l'artiste académique français William Bouguereau. Elle est actuellement conservée au Milwaukee Art Museum aux États-Unis.

Le tableau s'inspire directement du poème L'Aveugle d'André Chénier. Ce texte met en scène des bergers offrant leur aide au célèbre poète grec antique après l'avoir entendu prier pour obtenir un guide.

On distingue une lyre attachée dans le dos d'Homère, l'instrument traditionnel utilisé pour chanter ses épopées (l'Iliade et l'Odyssée) devant son public.

Frozen in Time: A 30-Million-Year-Old Marvel!

This 'praying' mantis is perfectly preserved within a flawless piece of Dominican amber from the Oligocene period—dating back an astonishing 23 to 33.9 million years.

The amber itself derives from the extinct Hymenaea protera, a prehistoric leguminous tree. Most amber found in Central and South America comes from its resin.

Amber from the Dominican Republic is known as Dominican resin, which is noted for its clarity.

Locked in nature's time capsule, every delicate detail from its slender legs to its fragile antennae remains intact, as if it were paused mid-movement all those millions of years ago.

Discovered in the Dominican Republic and auctioned by Heritage Auctions.

František Dvořák, born František Bruner, trained in Prague, Vienna, and Munich. He enjoyed success with exhibitions in continental Europe, the UK, and the US, but received little appreciation in his home country until late in his life. At the time he painted The Angel of the Birds, Dvořák was strongly influenced by spiritualism, which he had been exposed to during his time in the US.
