Genuine question, why is “as a white person” bad? If I’m voicing an opinion about racism, I thought it’s important to clarify that I’m white so that people are aware and can call me out if I say anything biased.

It's also important to not make yourself the center of attention when people of color are describing their experiences. It's not that you're clarifying you're white, the issue is when people of color make a post calling out racism and then white people who want us to appease their guilt are like "as a white person i've NEVER done/knew about this" and it's like. That's not... helpful? We don't really need to know that 😭 Sometimes it's better to be an active listener than to want brownie points for seemingly not being racist. If it's the latter and you didn't know that was racism at all, that's not great either because you SHOULD know that if you're someone who who says they want to unlearn their biases against marginalized people. I think sometimes, people just want to chime in and are unaware of how they come off, but other times, it feels pretty defensive.

I belive cops have used the bystander effect as an excuse to do bad things... and I that is cops being fools because again, the bystander effect does not apply to cops as they are not bystanders...

But it IS a real effect with a lot of proof behind it, unlike the Stockholm syndrome...

@moose-mousse You've misunderstood the post. The bystander effect was coined to cover up police choosing not to help, by pretending bystanders (non-cops) choose not to report and so it's not their fault for responding slowly/too late to emergencies because they weren't informed. By pretending that bystanders didn't seek help or intervene, the cops can shift away blame and point to a natural phenomenon causing the public not to care.

It was coined after the murder of Kitty Genovese, because false statements were put out saying over 30 bystanders didn't help or call the cops and that's the excuse used for them not saving her... except people DID try to help, far fewer people saw/heard anything in the first place, and hesitancy to call the police is because of fear of police rather than any kind of bystander groupthink.

I recommend you read up more on this stuff before assuming you know better!

the same sentiment goes for words like "theyfab" by the way. even if this post is primarily about misogyny, making up words to mock nonbinary persons who "post femininely" or "don't pass" or whatever is transphobic (and dareisay still somewhat misogynistic to denote someone as "girly" for the way they post) and still stems from the same general source. especially when it's used in the context that I usually see it used, wherein the target has not posted about their gender at birth at all and people on here still assume "afab" because they post about "girly" topics (or use they/them at all; there's definitely a weird trend on here where people just assume somebody using gender neutral pronouns must be afab). I think I've finally figured what the upside of the Buried is.

Avatars glean some degree of positive emotion from serving their patron. Jane loved her companionship, Gabriel loved his art, Simon loved his freedom, etc. I hadn't been able to think of anything that the Buried could possibly offer someone until today, whereupon I realised that the inability to move is also the inability to change.
