sorry my children you may need to wait a bit longer for art driving school is absolutely kicking my ass. Mother will provide just give me a second
thanks to @kirblys in this post for pointing it out to me but I'm SO intrigued by the "Cain's Jawbone" connection in Threshold so far.
At first I honestly had no idea that the publisher's pseudonym for the book was "Torquemada" (the puzzle book Faroe mentions she's reading), most popularly a reference to Tomás de Torquemada, the first Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition. This was mostly a nod to how difficult the book was to solve, inspiring a kind of "mental torture" in the reader
oh how familiar that concept is
anyways I did initially think it odd how emphasized this puzzle book Faroe is reading was, especially with this line:
I thought that was foreshadowing how Threshold is gonna follow a similar pattern of small peices forming a bigger picture as our detectives peice them together, but I really like this more meta take of the real life book being significant.
I also just wanted to mention but the actual title "Cain's Jawbone" is in itself a nod to this Shakespear quote from Hamlet:
"That skull had a tongue in it, and could sing once: how the knave jowls it to the ground, as if it were Cain's jaw-bone, that did the first murder!"
And now I'm curious if the connections to Yorick was intentional, how Kayne was the one who sugested to "give him a mouth". I dont know if that has any other significance I just think it's funny.
yeah super ecited to see if anything more comes from this or of its just a smaller peice of the biggure picture, much like the book itself.
It’s rough out here man

Malevolent: a summary
I counted. This man has died six times.
(spoilers)
Bleeding out on the boat when the wraith saves him
In the caves when John makes a deal with Kayne
The Witch stabbing Arthur and John going apeshit and using the crystal
Arthur stepping into Yordik’s light to sacrifice himself so John can have a body
Plunging into the ice to get back to the Waylay
Dying by Kayne’s hand in the finale
Jonathan Sims taught me to draw beards and Arthur Lester taught me to draw mustaches. I think that’s thematically beautiful.
