I’m an omnivore but a hot take of mine (albeit not a hill I will die on) is that it was counterproductive to turn vegetarian/vegan into strict identities and shame anyone vegetarian-adjacent who eats meat once in a while as weak-willed or a hypocrite. I think someone who has a pork dumpling every now and then still exhibits discipline and has more in common with a vegetarian than someone who eats steak and bacon every day and turning reducing meat into an all-or-nothing thing just discourages people

#i think there's a difference between vegan as an ideological framework or set of morals to veganism as a diet too #i'm not a vegan but i agree with a lot of their beliefs and consume a mostly plant based diet #however i do not subscribe to the entire idealogial framework and so i am not 'vegan'#i think this is why vegans can be combative when presented with the idea that you can pick and choose because for them it is beyond a diet #but a moral code so i do understand that frustration too #whereas if someone is veggie or plantbased there is less baggage to that

sometimes i wish i could tell other women that you can just stop removing your body hair and in many cases the consequences will be way less severe than u expect. you can go to the beach with all your leg hair intact and nobody will stop you or say a thing. you can stop waxing your upper lip and people won’t stare at it the way u might be bracing yourself for. you can quit plucking your brows and eventually they will grow back into themselves and no one will even notice. like for sure women are punished for not participating in beauty rituals but i also feel like so much of it is like The Panopticon sometimes where you just convince yourself that if u stop that kind of gendered upkeep everyone will be mad and stop talking to u forever when in reality you just keep existing and nothing remarkable happens. it’s not always easy but you can kind of just stop for real

At a holiday party with a bunch of ladies younger than men and one brought up how she went to a spa and was so glad no one else had shaved. And everyone was like "yeah I haven't shaved in a month" or "yeah it's been like 4 months for me" and I said "yeah it's been about 15 years for me."

And I told them the exact same thing as this post. "No one has ever given me one problem about it. I go to the beach, swimming, whatever, my leg hair is dark. No one notices. No one looks. It's not a thing. Free yourselves."

Do you know how much better unshaved hair feels than prickly stubble all the time? Both for you and partners.
