“You do know that you could just show up with a dog and Laura would love you, right?” Jill asked, barely capable of masking the amusement on her face as she pulled the cart to a halt. It wasn’t worth mentioning that they all did already, she knew it would fall on deaf ears no matter how many times Jill had heard it herself. “And my grandfather won’t be there, so it’ll already have them all at level one instead of ten.”

“You mean if I show up with a dog I’ll be starting a civil war between Laura and her sister over who gets to keep the dog?” Juliet asked curiously as she raised her eyebrows. She knew better than to believe it would end any other way, but she also knew Laura would go over and beyond to prove that Juliet was family. She knew that. “Is it bad I’m always thankful when he isn’t around? It’s just a lot easier.”

Kieran knew that there wasn’t any reason to worry, especially not where his family was involved. For as crazy and judgmental as they were to everyone else, it didn’t seem to apply to partners and honestly that was for the best. But still, he knew that she would. “Some kind of pie, I think.” He answered with a slight shrug, glancing down at the items they’d already grabbed. Juliet had gone over the list so many times he nearly had it memorized himself. “You know they’ll just be happy to see you, right?”

Juliet logically knew that there was no reason for her to be as stressed as she was when it came to Kieran’s family. She was lucky when it came to how much they loved her, but she still wanted to make sure they believed that she was good enough for him. “Pie!” She exclaimed looking over at her boyfriend with a relived smile, “I know that logically, but I still worry that they’re going to change their minds about me. I just want to make sure that they still love me and with your family the best way to do so is with food.”

Juliet had list of groceries spinning in her head as she tried to remember everything she had planned. She wanted to show up to New Years with a few dishes of her own in order to really win Kieran’s family over. Her nerves however were shot. “Stuffing, ham, what else was there?” She asked herself sighing deeply.

“That’s all I ever want to be. So long as you let me.’

“Kieran, I’m going to let you be my protector for as long as you want to be. I’m so in love with you, I’m completely planning on spending my entire life with you.”

“None taken. I always kind of expected it, you were a daddy’s girl even in the womb.”

“I was? I bet Kyle was a complete mama’s boy at least.”

“That’s a downright lie.” Jill laughed, rolling her eyes, “but thanks. At least someone thinks so.”

“I’m not the only who does, otherwise I would have to have some words with your boy toy. Therefore it’s true.”

“I’ll tell you about him. It’s okay. Whatever you want to know.” She promised with a small smile, “he was so excited when we found out about you.”

“He was?” Juliet asked quietly as a smile crept onto her face, I think I would have been a daddy’s girl, no offense.”

“Oh, is that it?” Jill laughed weakly. “I still feel like he’s out of my league sometimes, how dumb is that?” She shook her head, dropping down onto her friend’s couch.

“Pretty dumb considering you’re the literal hottest woman in the world,” Juliet assured her as she stroked her friend’s beautiful red hair.

“He puts up with so much of my crap. I don’t really know why half the time.”

“Half the time it’s because you’re the hottest woman ever, the other half is because he loves you.”

“It’s not a bad sort of sadness, it’s more…bittersweet. But I don’t ever want to be the reason you don’t know about your dad.”

“I mean if you want to tell me about him I’d love to know what he thought when you guys were expecting me.”

“Good. I don’t ever want you to worry that it’ll happen again.”

“No I know. You’re literally my big protector from all that is scary and terrifying even if it’s just a nightmare.”

“I think there’s video somewhere of me doing that to Callum, too.” Jill joked, shaking her head. “But I guess if she has to become really weird, that’s not the worst I could do.”

“Oh I need to see that video if we’re being honest. Mostly because I need to see Callum being completely whipped because it’d be hilarious.”

“Don’t worry, I’m never going to let that happen.”

“I figured as much. Don’t worry, Kieran, I know that you will never let another bad thing happen to me as long as you can help it.”

“I think their bond will be a little different, because I’m planning on us not getting kidnapped for eight years. But they’ll be close, I can feel it.”

“I’d really rather not get kidnapped ever again if I can avoid it quite honestly.”

“Sweet, vodka Jill scares me. I don’t know her, she’s too nice.”

“She tells me I’m pretty and strokes my hear.”

“I wish that you had that, too. But if you ever want to know about him, you can always ask. I don’t mind.”

“I just don’t want to make you sad talking about him. Although I want every story about him that I can get.”

“By this point, I would hope she’s stopped thinking you’re stealing me away.”

“I get why she’s worried though. I don’t blame her at all. I hope our kids have the same bond.”
