His brow furrowed with concentration and confusion at the question. Repartee never seemed like one of Lincoln Conwayâs strengths. His expertise consisted solely of physical prowess, leaving him perplexed by the word battle Julius started. âI donât know. When youâre faced with a storm at sea, you can either let the tide overtake you or glide along the stream to survive. It really depends on the strength of the sailor and the vessel.â He finally replied with a soft tone. âIâd think most want to survive any storm, donât you?â
The tone surrounding District Four caused Lincoln to tighten his grasp on the phone. While the young victor could not match the Gamemakerâs silver tongue, he still possessed pride for his district. The academy may have conditioned him into a killer, but Lincoln never felt as calm as he did roaming the marketplace, paddling against the sea, and listening to the waves in Four. âThatâs too bad. Thereâs a lot of good people here.â
His mind raced with the methods he already witnessed Julius use. The mutation mastermind formulated the zombies and holographic ghosts from the Seventy Second Games that plagued his slumber rather frequently. âThat sounds pretty compelling to me.â After all, hadnât the academy employed the same tactic to transform Lincoln into their champion? âDo people usually go to intense lengths to use that type of weaponry?âÂ
Julius chewed on his lip a moment. âOh, I quite agree.â He said in a matter-of-fact tone as he pondered the District Four Victorâs words. âHowever...â Julius started with a small sigh of ponderance. âSimply wanting to survive the storm does not ensure survival, does it? Oh, sure skill plays a small part...â He pondered. âYet, Fate has other plans for a lot of people. Donât you think? The unlucky.â The Hunger Games were a perfect example of that. Every tribute went in wanting to live and only one came out. Sometimes it was the well-skilled Career Tributes and other times it wasnât. It wasnât unlike life, a bit unpredictable.
âThere are a lot of good people in a lot of places,â Julius pointed out. Especially the Capitol, it was crawling with good people with even better intentions. âI suppose every place needs a smattering of good people to keep the light shining in the lighthouse.â It was just the way of the world and what had Snow said before, a little bit of hope was a good thing.
âOh Lincoln, you have a lot to learn.â Julius pointed out with a small laugh. âYou do not have to go to great lengths if you are good at it. People just,â he paused for effect. âFall into line, I suppose you can say.â It was almost like a game to Julius he was so good at what he did. âTell me, how is your family? Are your sisters ready for this reaping? It wonât be as much of a hauntingly good time as last year, but it will be quite swell. If I do say so myself.â
