please don‘t brush this off as random hate mail, i‘m not in any way trying to hurt or insult you. i‘ve followed you for a year+ i think.
i would like to share this post with you, because it kind of shocked me to see you posting abt that franchise, using official tags and everything. apparently walking around in public with merch. i understand loving what it was to you, and i personally don‘t think there‘s anything wrong with that. but to make it public, considering that the creator is actively campaigning against trans human rights, is something i do not understand. i know to you it probably seems little and harmless, but everyone who thinks so adds their ‘little’ actions up together, and suddenly it looks pretty big, and has a very scary impact.
i thought this post i found on bsky put it pretty well, so i‘ll quote it to you:
“I feel a lot of people don't connect Rowling with HP in their minds to feel okay w themselves spending money on it etc. Separating the art from the artist in your head does not separate them in real life. She made sure she IS harry potter, it is directly connected with her relevance (and bank acc)”
you didn‘t spend any money, i know, but you‘re using the official tags and from the looks of it showing public support.
any engagement with her most popular series gives her power and keeps her image endearing to the public, because, come on, she made that thing everybody loved. it can‘t be so serious then, can it, the supposed ‘harm’ she‘s causing? she’s this beloved figure! so many people are still supporting the thing… so… whatever!
when everybody keeps constantly being reminded of the ‘good’ she did, creating that beloved thing, it makes it so much easier to look away/belittle the very serious danger she‘s putting these already vulnerable people in. i think publicly loving the franchise through that directly, like, muffles, dampens, belittles the horror of the transphobia she‘s been relentlessly pushing for years now, and she‘s not stopping, in that way. it makes the very real and valid criticism seem unimportant, you get me? the franchise and her are publicly inseparable. whether you want to separate them for yourself doesn‘t have any impact on how it is for the public. she is the franchise. the franchise is her.
anyway. at the end of the day, you gotta make your own choices. bye.
thank you for sharing your perspective and pointing out some of the aspects that i haven’t thought about before
i am in no way supporting rowling and her statements, i will take more time and effort to reflect on my own mindset and this point of view
