Hello! I am a Navajo&Aztec artist in need of references of the clothes people wear to powwows for an upcoming project. Any pictures of people at powwows, be they vendors, dancers, hosts, or casual day-trippers, would help! The piece will be a mural done over six 18ā x 24ā canvases for a full image measuring about 48ā x 54ā
It is a spontaneous work (ie there is a mural opportunity that closes later this month that wants me to have more than one piece at least 4ā x 4ā big in my portfolio) so this will not be included in a gallery or as part of any larger collaborative effort unless I enter it to be displayed at a gallery later but this project is still important to me and will be a key part of my portfolio going forward.
The working idea is that the piece will be centered on Land Back and the appropriation of sacred spaces. There will be a crowd of people standing outside a chain link fence guarding an empty field that the people intend use as or were promised access to as powwow space. To show that indigenous people are not complicit in this process some may be climbing the fence and the key figure(s) will be cutting the fence. The issues of colonization and appropriation I want to address in the piece make it extremely important to me that I get explicit permission for all the references I use and that the references are accurate if not candid representations of people as they really look at powwows and the diversity in that

The clone oc you commented on was $70, but most of that was the cost of time on details since the commissioner wanted so many scars and such intricate tattooing over them. Without the extra detail it would have been about $40
Currently my commissions are on hold until March but I have a full explaination of my prices in a google slideshow here and I'll make a proper post about it once they're open again
