Evaluation
Look in my artworks in the second semester have involved another unconventional artistic materials, which are immaterialis; the sounds, smell, filming, and space. By these art materials, the concept of my project could stretch broaden areas. I tried to contain my intention of symbol to a boat made by life trashes. Hence, for creating my installation, I collected trashes which I used for a couple of weeks, it was one of my self-examination and reflection experiences at this time. This semester I tried two types of examinations. I floated the same boat in different places, and I observed peopleâs actions or reactions for a few hours. One was called recovered river in Bucheon(ë¶ìČëł”ê°ìČ) small stream where people could walk along with the river. Another was called Eurwangni Beach(ìì늏íŽììì„) located in Incheon.
What I found the result was distinguishing different attention and reaction from the viewer between smaller and bigger space. the boat could attract peopleâs interest and curiosity in a smaller space. They tended to come to close easily and took a picture and then share it. On the other hand, it could not approach peopleâs attraction in a larger place compared to a smaller space.Â
Overall, I realized that the concentration and attention of viewers to artwork are highly affected by the size of the place. People are strong bonds with a specific place. Furthermore, it could drive the theme to make a new gallery in public. I believe that I promote my ability not only in how to contact the viewer in public and but also, I could connect dealing with other materials to show my artwork. Â
 2.Mind extensionÂ
According to my second-semester artwork, I realized that there are many connections between public art, place, social media, social power. I would like to continue studying this area deeper and I will experiment with my project in different cities such as rural places, and city places, and then I plan about comparing each country. While preparing a future project, I will compare about audienceâs behavior in the online art gallery and offline gallery. And I consider using other sources like tactile and smell to reach human sense to next semester.Â
3. Theme & Reference ArtistÂ
The main theme through my whole project is simply the relationship between Trash and Society construction. Since MFA, I have been obsessed with trashes which is untraditional art materials. Why I use this, trashes were from humankind, people innovated amazing inventions for peopleâs convenience and life hood except nature. So, plastics are found everywhere and people are addicted to these materials. Human and society and nature are connected in modern society, and I want to focus on the trash trade market.Â
I researched some of the artists who are people mentioned, or I found online while this semester. Most of them were posted installation art and public art. The artworks made me confirm my artwork, purpose, and plan at this duration.
The first Artist is Marina Abramovi, she is performance and uses her body to depict her art project. The most interesting part is she invites people into her project. I guess that tone of people meets her and sees her project. Through interaction with each other, they can feel something they had not expected before and it has a chance to aware of humanâs inherent soul. This semester, I was going to touch peopleâs emotions with my project, however, the COVID-19 was not allowed people to join my project. However, I am still interested in this way how can I approach the viewer with human body and sense.
Next, Ai WeiWei is a well known political artist. His major theme is human freedom and, I am also a grown-up conventional family in Korea so, I can understand some of the situations that he is talking about. I was struggling with my self-freedom until 27, South Korea is one of the examples of democratic countries, but they have still contained traditional thinking and spirituality in peopleâs mind. This contributes most students to learn traditional education and follow the strict moral rule. There will be no creative thinking unless there is a proper education system. Â
Thirdly, Olafur Eliasson is my favorite artist in this semester. I hugely impacted how he shows his work in public or space with environmental topics. The way connects between participants and an irrelevant space. For my project, an environmental problem is also the main issue. People can naturally ask or intervene in my project because my artwork is also an irrelevant thing in public space, or they might do not think about the artwork in the place. When I see his work, I feel like I want to stimulate people to think and sense what they have become accustomed to surrounding us. Also, Yasuaki Onishi is a Japanese artist working in the medium of installation, sculpture, and painting. Looking at his art materials, he accepts unconventional art materials like tree branches, wire, hot glue, and urea. one of his foremost projects is Reverse Volume and he used the glue and drop it into the plastic sheet from ceiling to down. and after all the process, people can notice the space inside is empty, but the opposite side was full of ambiguous black strings. His interest is adding volume into space. there is no special meaning on them. From his artwork, I can figure out the common area is using lightless, unconventional art materials, using disposable things, using the space where the viewer can feel the atmosphere. And Wang Teyu is a Taiwanese contemporary artist. she works on air installation or sculpture and the scale of these are remarkably huge. what she intents in the project is the spatial presence with simple media and see the situation of people in this space. Those relationships between space and people elicit the bodyâs sensory experience replace visual experience. In this process, people and artwork can interact and communicate with each other. According to her project, I can consider of simplifying of my art project, because when I initiate my project, the more I think, the more I feel confused to work it out the object which shape I have to create. And I can sympathize with the concept of using space, I started to think about a place to evoke peopleâs emotion and their experience since the last project, so her projects lead my new idea to concrete more for my new project. Lastly, I tried to shoot video art in this semester, while I was working on my project, I did not notice that the artist Namjun Paik and I realized that it is one of the ways to prove how people connect without reality in this pandemic situation, all people connect with media without any touching. For creating my installation, there is no way to show in real in Australia, so I decided to film in a public area after setting up my installation in Korea. I could achieve an online exhibition for public art. I did not intend to make like video art, but some of the students assumed that video was also included in my art project. So, the point of view leads me to begin shooting some video for the public and share them.Â
  4. Theatrical approachÂ
Through the final project in my second semester, I got to know the way where I am going for my artwork better. While researching some theories, I found some of the art theories below the title. Firstly, my object is accepted as an unnormal material and it has manifested in one part of capitalism and materialism in our society. It is related to social and political art. Next, one of my purpose in my project is that the viewer should belong to my artwork. Because, my artwork topic is related to society problem l and environmental problems, so I want to invite people and discuss together what they think with my topic. Besides, I prefer to perform and communicate my work with people. it can be a deeper and valuable meaning as my intention. So, I want to do interactive art via my installation art.Â
Also, the public project is a new way to invite viewers who are not limit their age or jobs and time. And each space people react differently, it was also an interesting point in this experiment public art.  Â
Overall, I say and evaluate myself, I am getting to grow up as much as I expected in many ways. Studying this course impacted greatly on embodying my art theory and studying research by myself. For preparing next semester, I am thinking of studying more when it comes to âthe effect of public space and virtual space toward artworkâ, ânew experiment with trashesâ in my break time for example, from children to adults, they give interviews on a social issue. I believe that the more information I have, the more I can show a strong message with my artwork in the furthermore.Â
