you know, as a monster hunter fan for so long, i was always enamored by the absolute bullshittery that you got up to in frontier. like, it was an insane amount of reliance on evasion and counters with some weapons. how you can maximize all your damage as much as possible with it that was always so cool and I wished I could take part in it. Thankfully having private servers made that possible, but like. now, modern monster hunter games are like that and it doesn't feel the same. there's not the awe factor. it's a fundamentally different reception because things in the main series gradually went closer to it. frontier had this almost fetishistic attraction to implementing mechanics so tight, and reliant on maximizing every single ounce of a fight as it's design went down the line that was cordoned off into it's own section of monster hunter. we got a small taste of it with Generations and Generations Ultimate, but even then those are still a bit more grounded in comparison. I suppose the EX deviants kind of blew to fight, but like... I just have to get good honestly lol. The skill bloat that I thought was only ever something to happen in Frontier with 14 active skills at a time (but also only 12 of them are actually active and the other 2 are through being a "special effect" on full sets of armors) is now just the most beneficial way to make armor sets. Now they counter, and stack damage boosting skills that require more and more precision. And the new monsters outclass the equipment from before. Despite them not being MMOs, their semi live-service audience retention techniques to sell mtx is just insane. and i'll say just like every other mmo, frontier ALSO had a pretty strong mtx thing, and i don't excuse it at all honestly. unfortunately that's live service. and now that i'm thinking about it, the reason why i like frontier so much more is simple. it's that OLD GAME GOOD NEW GAME BAD BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
