Do you have any film recommendations for fellow Hiroyuki Sanada fans? Like some of your fav shows or movies he’s done?
HI ANON I’M GLAD THAT YOU ASKED HERE’S MY TOP 10 FAVE MOVIES OF HIS THAT I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK OUT
Murder on D Street (1998) - this movie is really something let me tell ya, the shots the set up the plot the acting is all A+++, there’s also cross-dressing, art and Japanese bondage
Twilight Samurai/Tasogare Seibei (2002) -I really liked this one. I find it very touching, something rather rare in the Samurai genre. Hiroyuki’s acting was so good in this like his eyes tell everything. This movie was also a nominee for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Picture!
John Wick Chapter 4 (2023) - hot old men fighting
Dragon in The Ninja’s Den (1982) - plot is ridiculous it makes no sense the costumes were all over the place the time period was never specified-BUT IT WAS FUN AND EVERYONE IN IT WERE MARTIAL ARTS MASTERS. You NEED to see Hiroyuki’s remarkable stunts in this!!!
Round about Midnight (1999)- one of my fave ‘one crazy night’ kind of movies
Ringu/ The Ring (1998) - probably the first movie I saw him in as a kid, and possibly one of the best horror movies ever made imo
Royal Warriors (1986)- great action movie with good acting from Hiroyuki. The final bad guy is hilarious tho his line delivery and facial expressions had me laughing like mad.
Kaito Ruby (1988)- he played against type in this, this movie was cute and pretty funny, a good one to watch if you’re looking to relax and have fun
Dotonburigawa/Lovers Lost (1982) - i think this was his first role as a romantic lead? He was good in this and had that innocent look in his eyes.
Nemuranai Machi: Shinjuku Same/ Shinjuku Shark: The City that Never Sleeps (1993): check out the ‘plot keywords’ section on the IMDB page lol
These are worth watching for fun:
Samurai Reincarnation (1981), 2. Legend of the Eight Samurai (1983), 3. Roaring Fire (1981), 4. Succession (1992), 5. Onmyoji (2001)
These are worth watching for his performances even though his screen time is quite limited:
The Railway Man (2013), 2. The White Countess (2005), 3. The City of Your Final Destination (2009), 4. The Last Samurai (2003), 5. The Wolverine (2013) HE WAS SO HOT IN THE WOLVERINE I LITERALLY CANNOT CONTROL MY FACE WHEN HE’S ON SCREEN
HERE’S MY TOP 5 TV SHOWS
High School Teacher/Kou Kou Kyoushi (1993) - this is something i don’t expect to like (i don’t like student-teacher relationships) but ended up being insane about it. Can be cute at times but mostly heartbreaking and sad. This literally has all trigger warnings (better look it up first before watching).Great performances from the whole cast. Also one of Hiroyuki’s hottest looks.
A Story of Love/ Konna Koi no Hanashi (1997) - I watched this coz he looked really good in it and initially thought it’s gonna be those typical rich guy falls in love with poor girl drama. But it turned out to be more about friendship and family relationships, which makes it more interesting!
Taiheiki (1991) - 49-ep Japanese historical Taiga drama, probably not for everyone lol many many politics inside, but I do enjoy seeing his face for 49-eps straight
Shogun (2024)- yep i’m sure everyone knows about this one haha
Unmarried Family/Hikon Kazoku (2001) - don’t really know what to say about the plot but Hiroyuki played a father and ordinary salaryman in this really well and there are some really good comedic parts in this so it’s worth checking out!
wow i really went and gave an essay on this oops but if anyone ever wanna talk about this with me please come and share your thoughts lol I'm always down to hear what people have to say about movies and shows that I have seen
