I was talking about this with a friend but a really interesting cultural shift over the last ohhhhhh ten years maybe is that many people in fandoms view themselves as stakeholders and not audience members. Because of that, they think that the fandom should be running things, or at least have an acknowledged say in how something is run. And every reminder that they are not in control, no matter how small, bothers them.

annnnd I think that sums up their two narration styles

#I have never seen a better example of a show entirely switching its idiom than this #it's not just a style of narration it's how both characters engage with the idea of themselves as storytellers and protagonists #both louis and lestat start their seasons as self-conscious capital N narrators #and that did nothing to protect louis in the end #lestat is the kind of person who thinks opening a vein and lampshading the process is going to keep SOMETHING at arm's length #even if he doesn't really expect that something to be his feelings #incredible fantastic wonderful #no notes #interview with the vampire #the vampire lestat

it is crazy to me people complain about the two year waits for house of the dragon there is no way they could reasonably do what they do in a year. game of thrones did but it had to have just burnt everyone involved out. like it is a massive, massive undertaking fans seem to have zero curiosity about, just absolutely no interest in the actual human labor that makes it. but from the way the cast talks about how grueling those shoots are, from seeing the kind of physical sets they build etc., i am literally fine with them only doing them every two years.

Part of why Game of Thrones ended as messily and badly as it did is that everyone was fucking exhausted. Actors didn't want to sign on for the extra years it would take to properly land the plane, there were production errors (the infamous Starbucks cup) because everything was being executed on a massive scale multiple times a season, and Benioff and Weiss, for all their many sins, just wanted to do something else! It was really never meant to be the Biggest Show In The World, with all expectations that come with that; they could do it year to year at first because it was mostly people talking in rooms.

I love House of the Dragon and wish I could get it every year, but I love labor rights for people in television more.

#I'm pretty sure that if emelia clarke was working on a show with a two year hiatus #she might have been able to feel safer and more secure in asking for support with her MULTIPLE BRAIN BLEEDS #and bear in mind this need not be the case with all shows #the pitt is yearly and they're managing to make that work #but it's because they have one location and no CGI special effects #what type of show it is makes a big difference
