I haven't done one of these and would like to make more mutuals sooooo hello!! My name is Ermias-Marlowe & I sometimes go by Toccoa here on the internet. I'm a Black Digital artist, Writer, Future Librarian, and (hopefully) future Author & Illustrator!

I grew up with a love of magical girls and fantasy and really wanted to start reflecting that into my work and bring far more diversified designs into the fantasy genre. I've even started writing a novel series named Locksmith, a black-led queer YA urban fantasy novel! Consider supporting me on Ko-Fi! I soon hope to start live streaming on Twitch and uploading chapters on Tapas of my novel and would love to create a small community of people who like queer YA! I also take commissions! I'm trying to force myself to be a more active artist, blogger, and creative so I made a side blog all for the novel series I've been slowly creating over the past three years. I won't tag it yet, BUT hopefully it prompts me to draw at least a little bit more LOL

ive really been trying to get a grasp on color palettes, but color theory hard :(

How do you make an image into something that looks pixelated? Like for backgrounds and things

I draw it with pixels at a low resolution

i feel bad for being sassy cos i realized now this poor person is asking about the background of images like this

which is obviously not handmade. sorry for getting confused, it happens more often than you think that people accuse me of using a filter for my pixel art or something

so here is a tutorial for aseprite on how to crunch the colours of a photo like this into any palette !!

step 1. find a royalty free photo or take one yourself heres one i just took on my camera

2. open it in aseprite and change the image size to be smaller whatever you need

Select a palette of your choice on the left side of the screen on the palette panel. use the middle icon to open the palettes dropdown.

i am using my palette i made at 20k followers, you can download it free here

once you have chosen your palette, in the top bar go to sprite > color mode > indexed. it should automatically choose the nearest colour it can from your palette for every pixel

as you can see its quite messy and i do like to clean it up a little but it looks good messy too like old games!! sorry for being sassy

omg long time no post, anyways. can any hot and sexy tumblr artists help a they out and give me some tips on rendering with a limited color palette???

these are the colors i was playing around with, i liked the dreamy sunset pinks and purples

and then i gradient mapped it w these colors.

my problem is is that like, do the limited palette girlies keep everything these solid colors, or do you pick tones and shades that would match the things in the piece even if the colors weren’t limited? please help a sista out i beg 😭😭

#2 seems to be the winner all around (img below for ref) with both my co-dev, my besties, a random discord server & the denizens of tumblr so now I can move awn to a functioning menu HUD

I'm going a bit more basic since I don't have many ideas ATM LOL

Thoughts & opinions are very appreciated ofc BUT, if the turn based party RPG lovers see this, what start menus do yall like the most & why? Looking for good ideas for alternate designs!

I personally like how simplistic but good In Stars in Time & Undertale UI's are, but I grew up with Pokémon too so there's influence from all over, but I don't want it to look clunky LOL. All onions are needed! Even some suggestions! Tytytyt
