saw a post pointing out how a character is often drawn skinnier in fanart than their "canon" (movie) portrayal. and the notes are filled with people justifying the character being skinny. or rather, drawing the character skinnier.

i don't know. i just don't know. i don't think we should condemn all artists who draw skinny characters. i just think it'd be cool if we could be a little more receptive to acknowledging fatphobia. like!!! i consider myself someone who's not fatphobic! but i realized recently that i tend to draw characters with the same skinny/scrawny body type!

i am not immune to bias! you are not immune to bias! there will always be some bias in the art we make!

can we? be a little more receptive to when people point that out? if one's immediate reaction to a general post saying "hey, i noticed a problem with popular portrayals of this character" is justification or denial, isn't that kind of bad?? what about people who are directly impacted by fatphobia? can we ever express discomfort?

isabeau's go-to metaphor for his association with his past self being murder is such an awesome way to characterize being trans and is something i personally relate to & enjoy a lot!!! and then he immediately backtracks and goes for a "safer" metaphor of armor and preservation in line with his image as a defender and support role and it's like no!! no!!! you were so close isabeau!!!

and then i start to wonder which version he truly believes in and whether he chose the safer depiction because of his expectations on what makes him lovable. and i think isabeau is my favorite character
