Yuuri tells Victor his thoughts during their first dance.

I want to thank @thehobbem so, so much for co-writing the dialogue! She spent hours going through metas and crafting this line-by-line with me. Yuuri was much harder to write for than Victor and I couldn’t have done it without her tireless work. ;u; I also want to thank @teasidesketches for doing final revisions despite not being in the fandom. You two are the best. <3

I also want to dedicate this to @solfegefaerie for being the first one to give me the idea of writing Yuuri’s vows. They’re not vows this time, but I thought this was suiting. :) 

If you can, you should read this while listening to “Yuri on Ice.” I matched the flow of the comic to that of the song, hence the tribute to the representation of Yuuri as the lone piano until Victor comes into his life as the violin (in case you were wondering about the sudden Music AU thrown in the middle there).

When you realize that...

…although Victor had ex-lover/s, he couldn’t possibly have been involved in a deep or serious romantic relationship. He was 27 when he said he’s been ignoring life and love for over 20 years. He had his lover/s either when he was too young (around 7 years old) or within the last 20 years, but either way it would not be a serious one if he’s been neglecting it.

Then comes the realization that Yuri is Victor’s first true love. And being at the right moment, place, and time, together, they met each other halfway in their first real romantic relationship.

Doesn’t this short hand gesture did a great job summarizing what they went through so far?

About how they met halfway: Yuuri opening up, and Victor meeting him where he’s at. Victor seeing a new world he’s never seen before through meeting Yuuri. 

Until that squeeze of the hand from Yuri as if saying, “I’m okay now. Thank you for everything you’ve done so far.”

Then letting go of Victor’s hand, releasing him first just like how he tried to “end this.”

Then how Victor subtly but surely tried to reach out for Yuuri’s hand, like how he tried to talk Yuuri out of retiring, even though Yuuri had obviously made up his mind, hesitant to let him go, at first, but did so with trust and open palms, ready to accept and welcome whatever decision Yuuri throws his way.
