what is the inspo for your au? like clothes, armor, and maybe even systems(exemple: church system, kingdom, quest, etc)!
ofc, only say what you can say! i dont want to force you to say anything you dont want to share.
for a while i got really into drawing knights and dragons. unfortunately i haven't drawn any dragons in this au. until now.
i started drawing phil, techno, tapl, and will in various medieval fantasy-themed clothes/scenarios. for a long time i designed/worldbuilt around scenes that i thought would look super cool in my head, because i wanted this to be a fun, not-so-serious project. these are some of the earliest drawings i have of this au! you can see that phil hasn’t changed much, while the others changed a lot.
i was inspired by a lot of other incredible mcyt artists' work, especially their design work. i wanted to see where i could push my designs in ways towards and against aspects i saw in others' designs. i take a lot of inspiration for clothing and weaponry from medieval clothing from around the 14th century, but also the renaissance, because. well.
there's a lot of other sources i drew inspiration from, like minecraft mechanics, music i was listening to, story archetypes from wherever else, probably beowulf at some point.

Welcome to NightVale is very WHcore, but I've been re-listening and i think the intro to episode 77 really nails it:
When a window closes, so does a door. So do all the other doors and windows. The house is alive, and it doesn’t know you, and it is scared.
man. idk about the rest of wtnv, but that quote’s really good i like it a lot. WHcore approved.
(side note: how is wtnv these days? i haven't listened since i was in middle school.)
Going slowly mad abt the way that genloss tricks you into thinking you know 100% what it’s about. Like, it PRETENDS it’s entire big reveal is that the show was hiding fucked up stuff from you, and that’s cool and all… but then they hit you with that ENDING, and you realise that’s not actually Everything after all.
Because NOW we know the true show being put on for us was the mystery, the “truth”, the little flashes of The Real Ranboo, and that means that this show is now digging into our DESIRE for those things, the way that we as an audience WANT to see the “real person” behind our favourite streamer. We WANT an in, a peek through the mask, and the most extreme form of that desire for Intimacy is this kind of brutal tearing apart of a person live on stream for us to consume.
This isn’t just true of Ranboo either!! It’s true of most of the characters - we like them more when they’re NOT performing on purpose and I think that the way this series draws attention to that is very interesting. We care more about the blood and guts than the slime and candy, we react BETTER to it, we WANT to imagine there’s something Real and Gritty under all the lightheartedness and humour.
And in the same way it’s like we somehow can’t just be satisfied with the silly show, we NEED to find a Real Person with Real Feelings under it, even if we tear them to bits in the process. That desire is the Market that makes this whole horrifying show VIABLE as a business decision for the in-universe company making it, and I think that’s a big part of what this series is playing with: in the end, we found that real person we were looking for, and in our first moment of true empathy we killed them to set them free from our own fascination with knowing them
Just saw another post that reminded me: THE CRACKED MASK. AT THE END. IS SO RELEVANT TO THIS
Like- the struggle, the blood, the mask cracked and his face bleeding under it, it’s so… people REALLY wanted a Ranboo Face Reveal, for years they’ve been “clawing at the mask”, so to speak, trying to get it off, and it FASCINATES me that they chose to show that little bit of their jaw right at the end when we have actually torn through to the bloody core of gl!ranboo. When we see him at the end there it is presented so much as what we wanted, Ranboo at his MOST raw and real, he even has his memories back!! Didn’t you want to see his face, audience?
And like- this whole time we’ve wanted the mask to Be Off, we have wanted to watch him act Authentically, and like- for real, in real life, I have seen people excited about the fact that we saw that tiny sliver of his face!
Way to play with the Real World to enhance your themes, gg buddy
