Azula HATES Being seen as a monster, she uses it as a coping mechanism, you can see her crying saying “even you fear me”, and then hallucinating ursa saying she loves her BECAUSE she wants to be loved. Azula hates being alone, mai saying “i love zuko more than i fear you” is again one more stance of azula feeling bad abt being feared. In the beach when she says “even my mother thought i was a monster… she was right of course but still hurts” her dismissing it is basically her, again, COPING because we see her breaking down EXACTLY because of this later, and also being hurt about being seen as a monster. The whole beach episode is her trying to act like a normal teenager btw, bc it’s smth she wanted to try.
More than that, in the comments, that are CANON no matter how much you wish to dismiss it, she straight up say "YOU ABANDONED ME. YOU WEREN'T THERE TO PROTECT ME FROM DAD, SO I BECAME WHAT HE WANTED--HIS DEADLY FIREBENDING WEAPON. I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE."
Also the CANON azula had a planned redemption:
If anything the CANON azula would be upset that so many people see her as a monster while glazing the fuck out of zuko, who thought it was okay to keep monarchy and also threw a 14 yo in an abusive aslyum, im not sure who are you calling the abuser in this relationship considering be also decided to throw his throne on her face the moment he could, and taunted a mentally ill girl.
No one who likes azula would want for zuko cause most of us want an actual good interesting character, and not a mid guy who is the most common trope to get redemption possible, while azula is unexpected for most to change, its actually interesting.
Azula maybe would hate her fandom but she would hate even more proshippers who ship her with her bum ass brother or ppl who support it
