I may or may not write an azutara space fic before I leave my major. something like azula as the sun and katara as both gravity and outward pressure that makes solar fusion possible.
“Avatar Katara.” Azula grinned, “My apologies for my current state. I thought I had a few more hours before you arrived. I promise I will be in more formal clothing for our dinner tonight.”
“I’ll make sure of it.” Ursa added. Katara didn’t miss how Azula rolled her eyes at her mother.
“It’s alright.” Katara said, “It’s an honor to meet you, Princess Azula. I know you’ve heard of our…arrangement by now so I won’t beat around the bush too much. I look forward to speaking with you tonight.” Azula grinned in the same way a polar bear dog might smile at an unsuspecting fox rabbit.
“As do I. Would you care to join me for a quick spar?” She asked.
“Azula.” Ursa warned.
“If I’m going to be her firebending master, I want to see what she can do. She is a Water Tribe Avatar after all. It only makes sense that fire is her weakest element.” Katara felt herself grow irritated. It was true that most Avatar’s struggled with their opposite elements but the way Azula announced it made her angry.
“I assure you, I have no weakest element.” Katara found herself saying.
Azula raised an eyebrow, “Oh? Well, let's test that theory.” She fell into a firebending position.
“I haven’t had the time to practice firebending. I won’t beat you.” Katara said.
“I know. For this round, I want to see what you can do simply by deflecting and countering my attacks. You don’t even have to use firebending if it’s too difficult.” Azula said, “I’ll go easy on you if that makes you feel safer.”
Stuck up princess.
Katara fell into a waterbending position while Ursa walked off towards the seats which were positioned far enough away where she wouldn’t get hurt. Azula moved first. She slipped past Katara with ease and unleashed a fireblast on Katara’s back. Nothing to seriously hurt the Avatar but enough to knock her to the ground.
“What the-“
“Oh, I should have specified. My easy would be everyone else’s ’fight like their life depends on it’ so….you might want to get back up.” Katara instantly got back up and charged at Azula.
Back and forth they went, for every firebending move Azula had, Katara was right there to counter it. At times, Katara remembered that she was supposed to be firebending and would try to create a burst of fire, but given that Azula usually just pushed the fire out of the way it seemed as though water was her best option. It was kind of beautiful to watch Azula’s light blue flames tangle with Katara’s dark blue water. As they fought, Ursa couldn’t help but be entranced by their bending. Water and fire both gracefully and majestically hitting against one another and working intertwined. Like Yin and Yang.
Then, almost as suddenly as it began, it stopped.
“You’re good.” Azula admitted.
“I’m a master in two elements for a reason.”
“Don’t get cocky, Avatar. You’re not a master firebender yet.” Azula stretched her arms over her head, “I should go get ready for tonight. I guess I’ll see you there.”
