Week 16: Character 3D proxy
Yes the 3D proxy for the characters are now underway. Puffy the dragon is done but the legs are not jointed to my liking so either I am gonna lightly sculpt on it or reconnect it in maya. Rumble is now half done. Modelled but limbs are still not attached. After this I am left with test rigging, and perhaps a few miscellaneous stuff to beautiful it maybe. Gonna post the proxies after I am done with rumble the squirrel.
Week 14: Doing leftover terrains work
So this week is fully dedicated to terrain, but due to the new place I was talking about, the terrain had a slight change but this change still demands a redraw of orthographic views. Sorry Edlyn, didn't mean to waste your efforts in drawing the ones before. As the terrain proxies are kinda finished, probably still might change, and there are so many assignment (I'm so dead), I gonna start on character proxies. And as now is a Monday, and tomorrow is the week 15 milestone check, I don't think I can finish in a few hours, I got no excuses, I'm sorry guys, I gonna try do whatever I can...
Week 13: Finish terrain
The terrain is finally done, or at else for now. Probably done a little too much as said by others but I just want to give as much details as possible so it is easy to understand without saying much during presentation. Sounds like I'm almost done? No. I still got the final extra environment in the story to proxy, collapsed cliff proxy, adding of proxy trees, proxy characters/ props, test rigs. Probably IF I have the time, I want to try out some special effects like water splashing/ waves crashing and also the using cards method for background as mentioned by Phil. Doesn't sound like enough work? I still got all the CAs and assignments of other modules to complete. So yep so much work, so stress. And I'm addicted to motivational videos to keep me working. Guess I learnt things like time management, stress management and keeping myself motivated to work haha.
Week 12: So much work
It's week 12 already and the sculpt is more or less there for terrain I guess. Workload for other modules are exceptionally heavy as all the assignment 2 are up and soon be needing to submit. Doing CPD alone is difficult enough but together with other 4 modules plus my additional EP module, it's hell. But I guess humans only can learn in tough situations. Hopefully I could adapt to these if not I'm going insane...
Week 11: Environment Continuation
Still working on the environment, drawing on paper, drawing in photoshop and painting them. I might not be good in all these drawing and painting but I gave it my best shot. Still working on more views of the terrain and digitally painting concepts of them. I am slow in these stuff but I am learning and trying hard in the process.
Week 10: CTs
CT week is here again, normally it doesn’t really concern us but not this time, because we have 2 modules of test to sit for. But CTs really put a halt to my ability to do work because all I think about is to study for the tests, memorising and understanding concepts. So I didn’t really did much work this week, but I did draw out a concept of the terrain which I more or less wanted and tried to sculpt, which I failed in the end due to some problems. Haha guess failure is part of success, I don’t mind many failure as long as the end is a success.
Week 9: Term break
With live-action film done, its one task off the load. This week, Edlyn isn’t around and is in China. But anyways, tasks has been allocated so I am pretty much trying to do something about it. I have been allocated for environmental design. I tried some researching as I realised I really have not a single idea how a cliff looks like when on it, I don’t know how’s the terrain like on a cliff. Then I tried sketching out rough concepts, some finished some not, because I still cannot really visualise them as I haven’t been on any cliffs. One week doesn’t seems to be much time as there’s still CPD homework ( Drawing and reading an Art of book, which mine was Puss in boots), and also 3AP assignment 1, which I spent a lot of time modelling things I want in my portfolio. Lesson learnt? Time is never enough and I tried.
Term break (Week 8)
Well so its time for break again! Or maybe not... because there is so much work to do, and the most important and urgent, the live action film. Filming was hot and tough (plus reshoots happen), since Singapore is such a tropical island. However, it wasn’t all work and no fun. We had fun trying to achieve expressions and stuff. The low budget also added on to the hilarious-ness to our film (I guess), as we had to use soft toys for stunts we couldn’t achieved. I learnt a lot during the filming, especially continuity in films (which wasted one day of filming) because it was confusing as our background and light direction kept changing. In the end we decided to re-film and get things to look right. Even though time is wasted, at least a lesson was learnt.
Week 7: Scripting
Because our story was more and less done, we actually had little things to edit in the story for now, all to do was to finalise some details in the story, like location. And then putting everything into the form of a script. Bringing back all the SNS skills from Year 1 haha. Work was also allocated to members of the team. Organisation chart and WBS at work haha.
Interim Viva!
So the day has finally came, the day we worked hard for to show our milestone fruits of labour. We managed to rehearse a few times before going in for the actual thing so I was actually a little more confident than week 3′s horrible pitch. Moreover, the lecturers were really patient, kind and enthusiastic, so we had a pretty comfortable time presenting our stories. At the end of the presentation, we were also given feedback regarding tone, story plot, screen directions, feasibility etc. Although the response of the lecturers were not unified on which was our strongest story as they each preferred a different story, we had useful comments and remarks by them on all the stories.
Hope that we really live through and be one of the surviving teams to get green lighted. Overall, I am pretty happy with this Viva, not because we had done very well, but because we had given our best. Time to work towards the real challenge, the Final Viva.
Animatic for Interim Viva I worked so hard on, enjoy!
