Jupiter sat alone at the edge of Silver Lake, staring out across the still water of the lake. The air had gone frigid in the past few days, and it had only added to the eerie feeling of isolation heâd started feeling at the start of the month. It was almost funny; he had been so content these past two years in being alone, keeping his head down, but it was almost like all that time had suddenly caught up to him, leaving him feeling completely, utterly alone.
Sighing, Jupiter zipped up his North Face and reached into the pocket to pull out his Zippo. He rolled it back and forth between his hands, feeling the cool metal against his palms.
Jandy would never admit it, but sometimes her bedroom seemed to suffocate her in moments like these. She felt like her house was too small to contain all the emotion she would soon burst out. She felt the photos of her and Jameson glaring at her, the photos of her and Isley teasing her, the ones of her family making her sick. Moments like these she spent by the lake, and sometimes in it. School was keeping everyone occupied and with it being the middle of the week, she didnât expect anyone to be there so when she didnât bring a bathing suit, she didnât think anything of it. That was, until she was leaving the water and the redheaded boy she recognized from the coffee shop was looking out across the water.Â
Her hair was covering her bare chest, the black locks like a cloak over her shoulders, but there was no way she would be able to run back to her things without giving a show.
âHey!â She called out to him, sinking back a little into the water. âYou, uh, mind moving that towel a little closer to the bank?â
So caught up in his own thoughts, he didnât even realize the girl in the water was sharing the space with him until she called out to him. Instinctively he looked up, only to meet eyes with a barely-covered girl. âOh, shit-â Jupiterâs face turned as bright as his hair as he instantly looked away, covering his eyes. âUh, y-yeah, just-... hold on...â Head still down, he scrambled to his feet and over to the towel, tossing it closer towards her before turning around. âSorry, I-- uh...â
âI-I-I didnât see anything...â
