i wish mental health was taken more seriously in riding because i spent the last half of my college riding career experiencing the equestrian version of the twisties (in gymnastics) but never felt justified in taking a break from the sport because it was just something to “push through.” the thought of stopping even for a short time made me so anxious because “what if i never rode again?”

riding through a line i would easily lose my depth perception and train of thought. i felt like i ruined so many horses because i would eat every jump or take fliers. in black tack i felt like i lost the feeling of cues and connection in the ring. i was so lost in the saddle, even with an amazing support system on the ground.

all of this to say im so glad to have my horse and just exist in a barn.

im so glad i let my brain recover. i will show again. i will get silly little ribbons again. and ill do it with the horse that saved me from myself and this sport.
