yeah that was me both times lol. toriel has the constant worrying and the religious compulsions over asriel's PDA back in the day, kris has the hand washing marathons and the aqua parallels and the you can never wash it all away and the promise as atonement from the unending sense of guilt, asgore is asgore. joke, okay seriously asgore also has The Guilt and his obsession with Solving the dessappearance and making things right against all common sense and reason, asriel also had the religious compulsions over videogame sinning. whole damn family with OCD!

spent a year trying to convince people with very limited success that the locked out thing was clearly kris lying to susie in order to bring them to the church. since, you know, it's established they're working with the knight, its confirmed minutes before that they know the next dark world is in the church, and theyre shown to be able to get in and out of their house. but no ppl are so blinded by misogyny that the only possible explanation was neglect by toriel and cruel hate. laughed so hard when I saw that dialogue option minutes into deltarune chapter 5 thank you toby fox

i couldn't have predicted that explanation so accurately (congrats LMFAOOOO) but truly, the only proof one would've needed was how inconsistent it was with the rest of her characterization. it's why I'm still very ??????? about her not mentioning the blood stain in kris' room. the fuck is up with that? is it recent + visually covered up by the cage enough for her to just straight up not see it? I don't get it.

Do you think Yellow is a super subtle roast of that hackneyed fangame that released a few years ago? Seeing as their main character trait is "killing themself for no reason".

i really don't think toby fox would be that venomous towards an entire fangame inspired by his work in his "you should take inspiration freely and remake and remix and have fun being creative, even if you're not very good at it" successor to that game

also I don't know how to tell you this, but "the yellow soul's sense of justice led them to kill themself to bring monsterkind closer to freedom in repentance for humanity's sins" is a trope that's existed in the UT fandom for as long as there's been fan takes on the fallen humans. UTY was far from the first fanwork to do that

ive seen quite a few people saying susie is ooc in chapter 5 / becoming "less butch" but i didn't pick up on it at all, is that something you've noticed in the chapter?

she did express more interest in femininity, what with the ribbons becoming equippable, some interactions with flowery etc. i don't know if I'd say it's "out of character", it's definitely unusual for her, but every single one of these interactions is driven by her wondering what other people think about her. whether noelle would like her better if she was more feminine. etc etc. i think what's happening is that her sense of identity has always been something 1) in defiance of rules and what people wanted out of her 2) very much dictated by the hate and distrust people had for her. so now that she is in a situation where she is liked for the person she genuinely is, her sense of identity and presentation feels shakier. cause now there's someone whose opinion of her Genuinely Matters To Her, and she wants to impress them.

i feel like people are expecting an unfair amount of solidity and self assurance out of a neglected, emotionally unstable kid lol

can't wait to see people compile all of her reactions to the dress up minigame though! i tried to doll her up as princely as possible, and she wasn't psyched (i think it was too elegant for her tastes. she kept the top hat though!)

i didn't equip any ribbons on her during my playthrough so i didn't know this when i wrote this post, but apparently even when they become equippable she insists on wearing them as anything OTHER than ribbons. so no, i think she's still definitely butch, she is just finding a way to include herself in kris and ralsei's shenanigans in a way she's comfortable with. vulnerability around your friends! good shit.

the only part that still feels odd is moreso her dynamic with flowery. his white knighting, patronising, tips-fedora-my-lady type heteronormative chivalry shtick is obviously in reference to asgore's own hero complex, but it's played oddly straight..? (punintended) i can't tell if he plays off as a touga (from RGU) to make him frustrating, or if he's just straight up the trope that touga is deconstructing played straight. cause I'd hate that with a passion. and it's not like he's got much more space to be unpacked since he fucking died.

anyway apparently there's people in the notes saying susie was never that butch to begin with. chat, toby's pick for her pronouns had the japanese localisation team genuinely concerned that players wouldn't understand she was a girl because they were only ever used by male fictional characters. let's be so serious, please.

low-key what fucks me up to most about the opening of the weird route in chapter 5 is the way toriel tries to reach out to kris after they slept through the entire festival. it's obvious that she has no context for the cosmic possession horror they're going through, but whereas in a normal playthrough she scopes things out and investigates quietly because she can tell something is amiss, in snowgrave she defaults to what seems like a very familiar and rehearsed routine to talk kris through a mental health episode.

just... how badly was this kid doing before they met susie if toriel assumes that this is what's going on again. is it so insane she's breaking every rule and letting them roam free until night and throwing caution to the wind and doting on susie too much too fast and weirding her out?? it's the first time in years that her kid's been walking around like they're not just waiting for the best chance to kill themselves, i would literally sob with relief

He did technically leave her alone but he left her in a better place than she was via chores and stocking the fridge and putting a blanket (or his coat, can't really tell with pixels) over her, she has regrets but it doesn't have to do with sans, more with letting Kris and Susie see her like that and accidentally being loud enough to disturb kris's sleep

i IMMEDIATELY thought about that when i went downstairs in the game lmfao. he got her a free fridgeful of groceries, took out the trash, possibly cleaned the sink (?) (i had to replay the ending of chapter 4 and it was already clean when they were bugging out so not 100% sure if that specifically was him) and threw a blanket over her when she crashed on chairiel. I'm guessing he had to go prepare things for the festival so he had to leave in the morning one way or another...? maybe he woke her up to say goodbye, maybe he let her sleep off her hungover in peace, either way now i know for sure it was something done out of kindness. he's a good guy, especially when it comes to her
