No more stolen sisters
Today (April 5th) is missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two spirit peoplesā day, which remembers and honours the epidemic of countless Indigenous women, girls, and two spirit people who have been murdered. Indigenous women experience rates of murder up to ten times the national average, and itās estimated six in ten women have experienced sexual violence. I will always stand in solidarity with Indigenous people all across the world.
Iām not an expert or any kind of authority on this, so here are some links!

Ronnieās pose is directly referenced from the centre character of You Are On Native Land (a charity comic I sadly have yet to read). Her bead earrings are by a Wetāsuwetāen beadwork artist, Thirteen Twelve, and her t shirt design is a design from Yinka Dene apparel. The red handprint over her mouth is a symbol that brings awareness to the ongoing MMIWG2S epidemic. From what I have researched, opinions are mixed on whether non-Indigenous people can do the red handprint over their mouth, so to be safe I personally wouldnāt. I also researched about Wetāsuwetāen cultures from this website but I donāt know if itās accurate sadly.

font feelings: georgia
georgia is often cited as my favorite font because itās sensible but still has a level of elegance and prestige, as if the writer has more time to clean things up and make it nice for the reader.
i love that while georgia isnāt that old - only like 30ish years - it feels ancient. seriffed fonts have a way of imparting that old timey elegance. itās another font made for microsoft in 1993, i assume itās for early versions of ms word. the intent was to make a more formal, elegant font that was still legible on screen.
And hereās my best friend Fluf with a hilarious retort to this dumb social media stuff hahaha
fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didnāt grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like ābro what is this š.ā why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.
ācollege is absolutely nothing like thisā āwhy are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one gameā āso tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!ā
if you donāt like a fic, and if you canāt suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you donāt have to read it. you donāt have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you donāt have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. itās not giving babyās first fandom anymore, itās giving entitled asshole and it isnāt as cute as you think it is.
this killed me 17 times
[translation: oh no, not a fucking englishman, you burned Joan of Arc! hope your king dies soon lol. long live France]
I think itās funny to say that I didnāt get into the āusualā trouble that people get into when theyāre fourteen, but man was I almost doing worse.
Was I drinking, smoking or doing drugs? No. But fourteen-year-old meās idea of fun was sitting on a dirty convention hall floor with a whole bunch of randos almost twice my age listening to them talk shit about people Iād never heard of. And half of the time theyād leave me and whatever other teenagers sitting with their stuff whilst they went to smoke outside, and then theyād disappear for like an hour. So the only people left would be me and like two other minors who were then stuck because we couldnāt leave their crap lying. And the majority of the time we didnāt know their names, never mind their socials, to tell them if we had to leave.
I fear thatās (somehow) not inherently the issue. The issue is that half of these people, if I did ever find out their names, were eventually cancelled online for being into minors, questionable fetish content or csam. One of them actually had a court case against them and I remember being filled in on it at a con in England (Iām no longer in any of these circles so I have no idea what happened after this, but even so I would like to respect the privacy of everyone involved and not disclose exactly what I know). Nobody knew any of this stuff when I was hanging around with them, and I rarely hung around with the same people twice, but it wasā¦interesting, letās say, to explain that one to my mum.
Safe to say I have since developed a sense of stranger danger and I donāt sit with randos at cons anymore. And to this day I still donāt know who half of those people were.
Let this serve as your reminder that itās totally okay to set boundaries with people! About 70% of the time I was uncomfortable in these situations, but I set any boundaries because I wanted to find community. But now I will absolutely urge anyone to forget making friends and to get out of these situations. If youāre unsafe and can leave, LEAVE!!! Especially in a space like a convention, because not all cosplayers are safe to be around. Every community has its freaks. And I ended up stuck with some of them.
But I was just there to have fun in my itchy costume and ratty little wig. And the people I actually was friendly with at that time were the sweetest. But again, most of the time we didnāt really know each otherās (real) names, so I donāt know what a lot of them are doing now.

I would kill to see a jurassic world edit to a masa song. Thereās so much potential if you look past everything else.
