Happy Pride Month!
ur friends love u & they’re proud of u 💖🌈💖
Saw something beautiful at a local Christmas event yesterday. I live in a very conservative area, so I'm nervous about being "out." The event was downtown, where tent shops were set up selling wares. I felt quite out of place for the most part. There were country life decorations, Christmas and Christian themed products. Not the sort of thing I'm into.
Then, I met two gay friends who were selling witchy and queer items. That helped put me at ease, but I still felt hesitant. I felt like I was being watched by those who disapproved. I saw the friends were selling small pride flags for one dollar. I wanted one, but wasn't brave enough to get one.
And then this young person walked up, about the age of nine or so, with her grandmother. She wanted a pride flag. I held my breath. The grandmother said, "you want a flag? You know PopPop has the money." Apparently, PopPop was nearby at a different tent. The child asked him for a flag. I held my breath a second time. PopPop joked, "Do you think I'm made of money?" and gave her the dollar. She happily picked out her flag and they left.
There was no "you're too young for that." No "I don't want you to have that." Just unexpected love and support from an older generation in the deep south where bigotry is common and frankly, expected.
Because of them, I found the courage to buy a flag too. I hope the child grows up surrounded by love and acceptance. There is hope after all.

it's all done! (well I still need to wash it...) SO hyped omg it's GORGEOUS!!! The colors are so vibrant and the rainbow gradient is so cool. It ended up being just over 500 yards of lace/light fingering yarn (~20 WPI). After washing this really 🌸bloomed🌸 and it's so light and springy and buttery aaah (the above pics are before washing)
See the plying ball here and the single filling up the bobbin here and the plied yarn on the bobbin here; The wool is an electric rainbow in rambouillet from SpinningSiren on etsy
I wasn't sure what to make with it at first, I figured a lot of my spinning projects would end up as colorwork sweaters since that's what I would wear most. But I really want to see ALL of the gradient in the yarn. I want to see all the color changes and fading and everything else. So I think I'm doing a shawl with it. So please leave a comment if you have any pattern recs! (I present mostly masculine, but I'm open to some lightly feminine accessories)
What sort of shawl should I make with this yarn?
Open and airy lace
Just a little lace
Some sort of knit/purl combo stitch pattern
Cables...?
Something else?

Currently leaning towards the My Precious shawl from By the Lily Pond. But to bead or not to bead, that is the question. (I've never done a beaded knitting project before)
Pride 2024: it's gonna be a good one.
