Once In Rome

Summary: 41AD, Rome. After bumping into each other, Aziraphale and Crowley go for some oysters to Petronius's establishment. It would end up just like any other rendezvous between the two, were Aziraphale not awfully curious about a certain human behaviour.

Snippet: Perhaps it was an itch of curiosity more innate in mortals that encouraged him to bring it up, but without two humans losing themselves in the act of canoodling a few tables over, Aziraphale conjectured, it might not have come about otherwise.

For an angel, he considered himself an inquisitive creature who, to satisfy his constant desire for knowledge, primarily derived information from manuscripts and other written memorabilia. By and large, it had to suffice. He considered it unwise to confide in humans, despite their shortened lifespans, to avoid the risk of—well, slipping up on his part.

That being the case, his origins precluded social interaction on a deeper level.

Crowley, on the other hand, had been on Earth for as long as Aziraphale, making his perspective and experience the only option Aziraphale could put his faith in. So it wasn’t unreasonable, really.
