since the cursed child is something i post about quite often, i thought i should share this in light of the uk supreme court’s ruling:
reminder that separating the art from the artist only goes so far. i mean this so fucking seriously: if you are a mutual of mine and you are still supporting harry potter financially, block me.
i adore the cursed child. it was one of the first theatre shows i ever saw and it really inspired me being able to see characters that i related to on stage– it essentially was the start of my appreciation for theatre and the dramatic arts.
however, as a trans man, it’s so frustrating to have the exclusionary and bigoted views tied to the series ignored. everytime you buy official harry potter books, merchandise, or tickets to the theatre production you are giving money to rowling, and consequently contributing to the attack on trans rights and freedoms.
rowling made £8.3 million on the cursed child in 2023 alone. that’s almost 10% of her annual revenue from the franchise
i’m by no means saying not to enjoy the series itself. but there are other options besides buying the official material. (fanfiction and fanart, bootlegs, free pdfs of the script, etc are some great ones.)
i’m not sure if this is a take that others share, but i’m making it known that this is something i feel quite strongly about.
