consider: oda walking the kids to the elementary school on his way to the high school
You truly warm my heart with this ask, really, thank you so much… *sobs*
Alright, here are a few headcanons I have for Oda-sensei and his children:
- I imagine the curry shop owner would be Oda’s godfather (or adoptive father), and he took the kids in after Oda. So Oda is more like a brother figure to the children, despite their wide gap in age.
- Oda adores his younger siblings very much. He takes the time to care for them and teach them everything they know.
- The elementary school they attend is actually right next to Oda’s high school, so he takes on the task of walking with them to their school gate before going into work.
- Kunikida caught sight of Oda with the kids once before they were officially introduced as mentor and trainee. Kunikida thought the kids were Oda’s at first and often shot Oda suspicious looks (he couldn’t quite believe that a 23 year old guy could have 5 children already) until Oda explained they are his adoptive siblings. Kunikida apologized to Oda profusely about the misunderstanding.
- Dazai is Oda’s neighbor and often robbed into babysitting the kids whenever both Oda and the curry shop owner are busy. He didn’t think he could be a good babysitter, but it turns out the kids are quite self-sufficient and like basically anyone whom Oda considers a friend, so things are mostly okay between them. Except that one time when Shinji got stuck with a fever and Dazai had absolutely no idea what the hell to do. That was a mess.
- The children come to visit Oda at his high school sometimes. As a result, all the teachers (and most of Oda’s students) know them and are very fond of them. Kunikida occasionally offers to tutor them in math. Kousuke and Katsumi do not like him very much because he’s too stern, and Shinji is a bit scared of him, but Sakura and Yuu take to him like fish to water.
- The kids’ homeroom teachers, like Kunikida, all thought Oda was their father before he clarified. It seems this happens quite a lot. Mostly because he doesn’t look his age at all and has a fatherly vibe.
- Oda and the curry shop owner alternatively attend parents’ meetings with the kids’ teachers. They are very well liked among the faculty and staff.
- The kids hate Mori on sight. They do not know why they hate him, but they do. After Oda became aware of his siblings’ natural aversion to the vice principal, he began to be more cautious around Mori.
- Fukuzawa spoils all the kids. They also love him like a grandpa.
- Oda’s students (usually Dazai, Ango, and later on Atsushi and Kenji) sometimes join him and the kids on their way to school whenever their paths intersect. The kids adore Atsushi because he’s so gentle and indulgent towards them, being an orphan himself.
- Oda also walks the kids home on days he gets out of work early, but they usually go home by themselves unless one of Oda’s students happens to be free. Then he would trust his student to get them home safe and sound.
