I've read today that Elon Musk has compared Britian to the Shire and that we are under attack from orcs (being refugees).

Firstly, Britain is not the Shire, we could only dream of being so lucky.

Secondly, The only people who attack the Shire in the trilogy is a rich, power hungry industrialist, obsessed with advancing technology, and the men who blindly follow him. And oh, they are defeated by the four hobbits who were actually prepared to leave the Shire, see the world, and learn from foreigners those around them had told them to fear.

Imagine voting not to make your own life better, but to make other people's lives worse. Imagine seeing someone genuinely terrified for their future and telling them "go and cry some more", actively encouraging their misery. What sort of sad little life these people lead, I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so utterly detestable.

I try to be open minded, understand that people are going to disagree with me and not automatically dislike them for it, but fuck these people. If you get joy from making other people feel like shit, then you don't deserve that respect. You deserve to reap what you sow.
