i was obsessed with the eruption of mt vesuvius as a kid, you know, ad 79, destruction of pompeii, the good shit. anyway when i was 9 my aunt was living in naples in italy and we went to visit and she was like do you want to climb mt vesuvius. and i was like hwaaa? you can do that? and she was like yeah i actually do a marathon up it every year let's go. so me and my mum and aunt and cousins all trek up this volcano in the middle of summer and it's yknow, a volcano. very hot and full of rocks. and we get to the crater and we're looking down into it and i'm like woah... this is what destroyed pompeii... and my aunt is like yup. got 'em good. and my little 6 year old cousin pipes up 'what would happen if it erupted now??' and me and my aunt just immediately, in the exact same tone, say 'we would die.'

i think i must be weird bc most people seem to get the biggest kick out of a series while it's still running, but i really like waiting until the dust has settled a bit so i don't end up getting into a thing only to go off it

funny story, the other day for care work i ended up watching cbeebies (the preschool bbc channel for non brits) with the volume turned way down with the guy I was working with, and I kinda got a big kick out of the animated shows not in a 'target audience' way but in a 'I'm proud of these animators and I hope they get more recognised stuff off the back of this' way

#personal crap #the styles were actually pretty varied i remember one in particular screamed gravity falls influence #and i mean that as high praise #it really sucks how bad the 'animation is for little children' mentality is here though #even the really really good well respected animation to come from this country like aardman's stuff or hilda #is still very much in 'family media' territory #then again so is most western animation sadly. it'd be nice if glitch helps kinda change that mentality #and usher in 'ya animation' as more of a proper thing
