Why reading is so important
Iāve spent most of my childhood and teenage years reading tons of books. The only presents I asked for were books.
Then, suddenly, all my enthusiasm was gone. All reading became related to studying, pressure, performing...
At first I didnāt thing it was a big deal, maybe a little phase, but I didnāt read a single non-study related book in FOUR years.
It felt like āwasting timeā wasnāt an option.
How wrong I was.
Quarantine made my insomnia a lot worse. I was so tired that I spent entire days on my phone. Then One day, while tidying up my room, I saw a book that brought back so many memories.
2009.
When life was easy, no anxiety, no tomorrow or past. Just the present. Having an happy childhood is the biggest privilege and luxury.
Iāve read it again. And then Iāve managed to read 16 books in a few months. It felt like I was giving myself the possibility of being happy again. Of having a little time for myself.
My grades went up and my mood did too. I feel like Iāve learnt more in these few months than in whole years.
Ps: Leigh Bardugo is my new favorite writer. So unproblematic, toughtful, talented.
Pps: Goodreads is such a useful app. Love it
