Performance art is good and listening to people who don't understand art talk about performance art is a unique type of torture.
Which is probably a thought that could be the core of a pretty fun, masturbatory piece of performance art.
Oh. Oh actually. Actually.
Okay, so the name of the piece is "It's what you make of it" and you have a setup that's a cross between a zoltar fortune-teller machine and a crank penny press. The room the piece is performed in has a warning about recording the performance and cautions the viewer to only interact with the piece of they consent to being recorded and photographed.
The artist is in the box, made up as a marionette and the viewer can use pulleys and switches to position the artist's limbs and to change the background and lighting of the box and can type a short prompt for the artist to repeat and act out verbatim.
The viewer has to drop a token (provided as part of the piece) into a coin slot and work a crank to complete the prompt. While the artist is acting out the prompt, the prompt is printed on a photo strip that includes a picture of the prompter (taken by a hidden webcam on the booth). One copy of the prompt and photo is spit out along with the cranked token (which has the phrase "it's what you make of it" and an image of a clown pressed into it) for the viewer to keep, one copy of the prompt and photo is spit out inside the booth where the artist can collect it after completing the prompt.
What the artist is going to do with the photo strip is not explained, the artist doesn't speak or move except as a response to a prompt.
People will prompt the artist to say "this is stupid." People will prompt the artist say explicit phrases, or to swear incessantly. People will prompt the artist to say slurs.
And they will walk away with their prompt attributed to them with their photo and a coin they used their energy to mint into a reminder that the art is what they made of it. And their creation is documented in the hands of the artist as well. What did they put into the world? What did they decide to say when they had a chance to say anything? What were they comfortable saying before they realized that someone would quote them on it? What did they make of it, and how would they feel if their photo was attached to their prompt in a book or video or somewhere that people might see it?
How did they approach the piece? How would they approach it a second time?
Mini-quilt commission
18x18 to 25x25, ideal for home decor, displaying photographs, candles, or anything else you can fit on it. I have several set up with small potted plants on them. These will be made using traditional piecing, much simpler and faster than foundation paper piecing. I need a color scheme and favored prints (floral, geometric, etc).
Foundation paper piecing will increase the price and time it takes to finish this due to how labor intensive it is.
A hanging sleeve is a sleeve I make and attach to the back. You can slide a curtain rod or something similar as an option for hanging this.
I may be getting hip surgery this summer to repair my right hip. This will result in several weeks or months of rest. By commissioning me, you are agreeing to a possible lengthy wait for me to even begin your commission. I will work on these until I can't.
Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
That cat is legitimately getting a state funeral, several statues, a weepy 10 thousand word obituary from The Guardian and an Elton John tribute song when he goes.

telling your friends you love them is not weird and should never be considered so
explained to an 8 year old that once a fruit is ripe you only have so much time until it rots so you have to eat it soon and she said so i'll never be able to keep it perfect like this forever? no and there are about a million pieces of art for you unrelatedly
You ever think about how often you hear someone say "there's no such thing as natural talent! Anyone can be taught" and you want to believe that they mean "with the right method and accommodations, anyone can be taught this", but time and time again you learn that they meant "I don't believe in learning disabilities or accommodations, anyone whom I can't teach simply doesn't want to learn."
I feel like we need some good news to share politics wise. As of the end of june, it is now no longer a crime to sleep rough. People are now no lomher criminals in the UK for not having a bed to sleep in and a roof to sleep under. It may not be an end to homelessness, but its a step in the right direction of decriminalising it and thats important.
If eridians had ao3 this one would go crazy.
ngl i have a really hard time respecting or taking seriously anyone who prioritizes like, farm animals or dogs or whatever charismatic animal it is this week over human beings in their activism. like i hear you and those animals deserve rights but do you know what other mammals are currently being tortured and exploited and killed by the Ag industry/resource extraction/capitalism? fucking human people!
i'm involved in a campaign trying to stop a prison being built in my state and the route most promising right now isn't like appealing to the humanity of the people who would be incarcerated, nono who tf cares about that, it's that the construction would be harmful to some dragonfly species that depends on the land the prison would be built on
it's so bleak. there's like no way to do activism that cares about actual people. it's always some circuitous bullshit that's more about wealthy people enjoying the land that would otherwise be used to torture people. people with wealth and power care more about bugs than people.
Literally begging people to engage with media in a way that isnât âstrip layered characters into a one-size-fits-all babie personality thatâs basically just the phrase âappley juice :3â as a personalityâ
I donât know how many times I have to say this but if you smooth away at every rough edge that makes a well written character interesting youâre always going to end up with the same smooth sphere. And if youâre only comfortable playing around with that sphere then either you never liked the original all that much or you should probably have a long think about how you consume with media and why this is the only way you seem able to do so

A recent repost of yours about disabled people got me thinking about how important it is for personal relationship to be fully optional to remain healthy. You should be able to break up, to stop talking, to go no-contact. It is vital to consciously choose that person every day for the bond to be fulfilling.
It doesn't matter how nice the people or their intentions are, if staying isn't a choice, the relationship will inherently erode, even if it won't become abusive.
For example, I have a caretaker/provider who I really don't like as a person. They're not terrible, we're just very incompatible. We'd probably have a nice and somewhat distant bond typical to relatives, if I wasn't disabled. But because I am, we're both forced to endure each other. Neither of us can leave or create at least some distance if we don't want for me to die in a ditch. It's not abusive, but it is so exhausting that it creates toxicity constantly. We're both a burden to each other, just in different ways.
It's so depressing that society is structured like that for disabled people and those who take care of them. Neither of us has another option. Loss of control always brings out the worst in humans, I feel like, even if it wasn't there originally.
When leaving doesn't just mean ending a relationship, but leaving someone to die because your survival depends entirely on them as an individual, that does create a really toxic pressure on a relationship even if no one involved are bad people. You're right that this is a big problem, and I really wish that there were more real options for disabled people who need care.
