shred life is the best life.
Study Schedule: MCCEE
The MCCEE is an exam that basically covers everything you learn in medical school...trying to review all the subjects and memorize 1000′s of facts can be daunting but you just need to boss your way through and get. it. DONE.
Hence, 4 months of review and also re-learning concepts that have long since peaced out from the brain.
For this exam there isn’t any official textbook, but there is an online question bank (Canada Qbank) with almost 4000 questions and subsequent explanations to the answers. I learn well from videos so I decided to supplement Canada Qbank with the US Kaplan videos made for the USMLE Step 2 CK. They are great and so far I’ve found American question writers think very similarly to Canadian question writers...meaning the videos are preparing me well (or making me feel like I’m preparing as seen with good results when I do the questions)!
How I broke it up was by weeks with each week being a different topic. Technically Monday-Friday are my study days, but as long as get through the topic of the week by Sunday night I am on schedule. This works well for taking breaks when I feel like my brain is fully saturated and needs a little chill time or when I know an upcoming even will require me to take a few days off (in which case I power through a few longer days to free up some time).
I’ve matched all the Kaplan videos to the all question topics each week and have the whole summer scheduled.
What I do each week:
1. Watch a video while taking notes and do the questions pertaining to the disease/topic of the video (adding any additional notes from the Canada Qbank explanations). I then move onto the next video until all the videos for that topic are complete. After this, I do the leftover questions from that weeks topic that didn’t get covered in the videos (for these questions/topics I take notes from the Canada Qbank explanations).
2. Once I cover everything the first time I do blocks of ~50 questions for that weeks topic until I get through all the questions again. This time I only go through the explanations for any questions I happen to get wrong again.
3. Finally, I take the remaining questions I got wrong and do a mini block with those (at this point 100% is usually the result).
And that’s it! I think when I cover more of the material I will do a block or 2 of RANDOM questions each week to keep me on my toes/not solely focused on 1 subject.
For example, this week I covered Internal medicine: Pulmonology which had 13 Kaplan videos (varying from 1.5 hours to 10 minutes each) and 133 questions. Manageable!
Week by week, I’m going to master the human body once and for all. BOOM.
Snapshots from a recent California adventure I took in April with the boy. Views on views, and all the activities. Was lucky enough to go to California 3 times in the past year, and I must say it is a trend that I hope will continue.
Unfortunately have yet to run into my all time favorite rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg. Next time, next time.

Ancient Discovery
Brief change of career to temporarily become an archeologist and dig up this ancient piece of internet blogosphere. It’s been 3 years since I last posted...partly due to being extremely occupied by medical school studies and fully embracing my time off by traveling and NOT being glued to a computer.
But alas, I’m currently studying for the whole summer once again, this time for the Medical Council of Canada Licensing Exam which I am planning to take this September.
Here’s a brief point form update of the last three years:
-finished medical school YAY!
-interned a various Canadian hospitals this year for networking slash general shmoozing purposes: hire me in the future!
-traveled to Africa twice and basically explored all of Europe (almost...there’s still a few gems I would like to visit in the future)
-PNW explorations and it feels soooooo good to be back home in the region I want to live: mountains (shred life, shred life, shred life), beaches (surf kooking), and sushi
That’s the gist I think!
Anyway, this summer is pretty low key adventure wise as my focus numero uno is hustling through this exam material and absolutely dominating on test day. But I’m already looking forward to some potential study breaks...
The Study Zone
So...I will be spending the next 8 weeks preparing for my first american board exam (USMLE Step 1), many hours in my study nook embracing and memorizing the wonders of medicine...a little less chill of a summer than I would like, but I'm down to be hardcore and get my inner nerd on for a couple months...then enjoy the freedom of summer after I rock it like a boss.
Secluded at the family crib, I'm taking care of bizzzzz...minimal distractions out here. Currently the daily routine consists of...
7:00am: wake up, ab workout, breakfast
8:00am-8:00pm: study mode with 30 min off for lunch and 30 min off for dinner in there somewhere...I do a block of UWorld to start off the day, then make flashcards of the explanations...which usually takes me 3 hours...which leaves me 8 hours for studying
8:00pm: workout (run or I switch it up with some power yoga a couple times a week)...rest of the evening is free to hang loose and then snooze at a decent hour
I'm sticking to long days and no days off for now since I feel like I need to cover more ground before I can justify some time off...plus I'm pretty stoked on studying at the mo' so might as well roll with it.
Week 1 and 2: Spending two weeks doing my initial review of things from first and second year...Kaplan notes and Pathoma notes are my jam.
6 months later...
It has indeed been a while, but my life is currently consumed by the pathology NBME I will write tomorrow...so all I have to say for myself is this:
Sailor Moon knows what's up. I feeeeeeeel dat.
getting official, passport steeze.
3AM study bun fun with Karolinka.
Best friend Shannon never disappoints.
Transcontinental bday/xmas present, lovely tea mug. PEACE YO!

And now, back to the exciting tales of glomerulonephritis.
