I did these for an art class several years ago. The first is a painting of Sébastien Agius as Robespierre in Les Amants de la Bastille. The second is a collage of Denis Manuel as Saint Just in La Terreur et la Vertu.

Barricade: Das Musical – Full English Translation
Have you ever heard of the German musical "Barricade", which is based on the Les Misérables novel, but not the German translation of the Boublil/Schönberg musical?
No?
Well, there’s a reason for that, because it’s kind of really bad. But also: there isn’t a full English translation of it yet, which I decided to do something about!
"Barricade: Das Musical" is an adaptation of novel that is independent from the Boublil/Schönberg musical (though it is suspiciously Boublil/Schönberg shaped).
You can find the translation over here.
(A few years ago, I sent an earlier version of this translation into a Les Mis discord server. Please refer to this new one instead, it’s much better and not as (overtly) salty about how bad the musical is.)
Thinking about that one review of Citizens by Schama.

> they decided to specifically cast Jean Negroni as Robespierre since he played him younger in la terreur et la vertu in 1964 and was considered The cultural Robespierre. Yeah he was getting old and he was even older when he played him again in 1989 during the Bicentenaire but the writers wouldn’t find anyone more fitting and I guess the public was also attached to him somehow)
some things
Citizen friends, is there anywhere I can read Mathiez's works on Robespierre in English please?
Is the one you’re looking for here?

Hi yeah I'm dying about all of this he's still so tiny and so handsome Jean pLEASE
Holy fuck, Robert Hossein had him play Robespierre three times in 1979, 1988 and 1993:
Jean Négroni was 73 years old the last time. I get it, he’s the ultimate Robespierre, but damn.
Also I knew that one was Carnot.
I still need to watch this I hadn’t known it was out yet lol
Have you watched Danton (1983)?
Have you ever thought, "I wish I had a recipe for something vaguely like That Fucking Crocodile?"
Well... I have good news! Meet the Appetizer Alligator!

@stalinistqueens I had to reblog because this tag of yours made me laugh out loud:
How to search for a specific document on the French National Archives website?
I'm going to use this post by @montagnarde1793 as an example because it's very convenient for me: she perfectly noted the archive's class mark and she chose a document that requires going through several files.

HOW DO YOU GUYS KEEP A CONSISTENT ARTSTYLE
,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yes this is apparently Robespierre. ALL Robespierre. No one else it's just a bunch Robespierres in every one of my artstyles (I have 21 artstyles. Yes I drew all these. ALL OF THESE)
@lucidreamer404 this is terrifying

THERE'S A 1978 HUNGARIAN FILM ADAPTATION OF 'THE DANTON CASE' BY PRZYBYSZEWSKA???!!!
Okay, so sadly I couldn't find the film anywhere, but here's the cast:
Director: Gergely Horváth Screenwriter: Gergely Horváth Cinematographer: György Czabarka
Cast: Péter Haumann - Danton Tamás Jordán - Robespierre László Gállfi - Desmoulins László Szacsvay - Saint-Just Péter Balázs Géza Balkay Ferenc Bencze István Bozóky László Helyey László Horesnyi Róbert Koltai Tibor Kristóf Kati Lázár Vera Pap Zoltán Sárközy József Székhelyi Miklós Tolnai Zoltán Tímár
Here are some photos of the actors playing the four confirmed roles, which were taken approximately in the correct time:
Péter Haumann (Danton)
Tamás Jordán (Robespierre)
László Gállfi (Desmoulins)
László Szacsvay (Saint-Just)
The film was definitely broadcasted on TV between 2000-2012, as I've found a titlescreen:
Unfortunatelly this chanel has no archive to search trough :(
Has anyone watched this 2024. series: Revolutions that changed history? The 4th episode is on French revolution.
@mostlyfrevstuff so i just watched the documentary. I shouldn't be surprised that it was bad, but, for some reason, i always hope that there will be a good frev documentary.. The first part of documentary was.. okay, but when it comes to the period of 1792-94, it was bad. They didn't mention some important events like: Champ de Mars massacre or Marats death, etc. They actually haven't mentioned any other revolutionary except for Robespierre (ofc 😒). I mean, it's not very different from any other frev documentary honestly. Robespierre is presented as the only person who decided on the faith of Louis and Marie Antoinette and also they said that Robespierre advocated for republic since 1789. (as far as i know he was for constitutional monarchy until 1791.). Robespierre is OF COURSE the president of CPS (they said: Robespierre's committee). So just a lot of Thermidorian propaganda: he made his religion and his own chruch and also a new calendar (AS HE WAS THE ONLY REVOLUTIONARY). I really hate when they show frev to be: Royal family vs Robespierre. They also said this nonsense: „In june 1794. Robespierre becomes a first president of National convention.” (what does that even mean????).
Of course there are more mistakes, for example, they said that Guillotin invented guillotine, and when they were talking about Marie Antoinettes trial, and about accusations of incest, of course they didn't mention who made that accusation, and it sounded like every revolutionary just agreed on that.
That's basically it, you don't have to watch it.
And this is Robespierre. He's not even bad tbh, he's young at least. They got the age and appearance right if nothing else.
I have discovered the strangest thing
