Welcome to the Magia Region
500 years ago, a colony of wizards were transported to the region (likely due to Palkia and Dialga shenanigans), but they chalked it up to divine intervention because they were trying to escape a band of witch hunters
They declared the region their new home and started making parts of it their own, discovering that colonies of dwarves and goblins had been transported there too before them. There had also been a few ancient civilizations whose ruins were also discovered.
The Legendaries of the region erected a magic barrier around it that prevented the ambient magic energy from escaping, except in the form of the occasional leak. The wizards erected Guard Towers over the Cornerstones that made up the barrier, ensuring their protection.
One caveat: Non-Magians that enter the region will lose their memory of ever being there after they leave through the barrier. This goes for most Pokémon as well. Only those with Magian blood are unaffected.
The ‘game’ kicks off when the barrier mysteriously goes down and the Galar region is treated to a broadcast of one of New Hogwarts’ quidditch games.
A few years later and our protagonist heads off to school in a Magia that is still adjusting to an influx of non-magic users coming in now that it’s safe to do so without memory loss
Galar is the closest canon region to it in terms of geography, so Galarians would have known something about people from Magia before the barrier went down
