Hi, because I just read your post about the Oasis themed bars in NYC and Manchester... I fell into the Oasis rabbit hole a year ago and there was absolutely no way for me to have made the '25 tour. However I will visit Manchester in two weeks. I am seriously afraid that I will act like one of these Japanese tourists that are disappointed that Paris isn't the Disney paradise they were imagining.
I'm going to take a very long walk visiting all the Oasis related places I know. Like the birthplace, the Boardwalk, the (former) Hacienda, India House... Can you recommend some places to go?
OMG I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE GOING!!!! i obviously can't speak for your future experience but as someone who lives in a city and has been to several i can honestly say that Manchester is one of my favorite places i've ever been... it's a great city and the perfect size to where there's plenty to do but you won't feel overwhelmed to do it all!! it's also just super... idk how to say this. it's very "real" which is something that i appreciate...
if you go to Burnage you have to go to Sifters!!!! Mister Sifter of Shakermaker fame still works there and there are two really great Oasis murals on the side of the building!!!
definitely go to Definitely Maybe at Afflecks, but they are only open Friday to Sunday I believe? maybe only Saturday and Sunday? you should also check out the inside of Afflecks, as it's a really fun market with dozens of vendors. there's a store on the first floor called The Manchester Shop that has lots of madchester/britpop ephemera.... pins, patches, posters & the like... then there's a shop on the second floor that has even MORE posters and pins... but there's all sorts of good vintage shopping etc there as well.
i also found cool oasis postcards in the basement of Fred Aldous, which is a really fun craft/trinket store that's also known for having vintage photobooths!!
the last oasis thing i know is that if you go to the New Islington Marina, there's a footbridge there on the northwest end (on my map it's labeled Cast No Shadow footbrige) that projects the words CAST NO SHADOW into the water — but go on a sunny day if possible!!! there's also loads of cute cafes etc along that little strip.
some museums I like: The Whitworth, the Science and Industry Museum, i didn't make it but i've heard great things about the People's History Museum!!!
you have to go to Greggs for the sausage roll and chicken tikka pizza (unless you are veggie in which case get the vegan sausage roll) and yes it is like convenience store food but it's GOOD so what. I also have a few other food and drink recs if you want those...
hope you have the best time and lmk if you have any other questions!!!! 😁

What’s mad about the riots yesterday is everyone talking about like ‘oh why would it have just been protestants that went crazy and did a pogrom? so strange I wonder why this is’ as though the people in question haven’t spent the entire summer every year since the 1800s burning effigies. trying so hard to not be sectarian it’s eating a hole in your brain
Something crucial about the north of ireland today imo is that in the interests of peace or whatever you have to pretend that loyalism is just a subculture in the same way that, like, gaeilgeoirí are a subculture, and that yearly demonstrations of hatred and racism and singing about being up to your knees in fenian blood are just ‘their culture’ and you have to respect it. and then predictably the people whose culture is burning minorities out of their houses burn minorities out of their houses, and the newspapers pontificate a little as to why, and then we all go back to being told we have to hold hands with the people who did it or the troubles 2 will start TOMORROW and you can’t complain or you’re being sectarian and living in the past
oh, my talking bird
