I'm not super clued up about John Lee myself - he was the director of Into The Fire that Seunghyun worked on from December 2009 to April 2010. @emilydorp did a brilliant, more in-depth post about this than I could ever do, so please give it a read! If you want more info about how John Lee potentially plays into the GTOP issues of 2013, I recommend giving this a read, which was written during the time it was all happening.

Only thing I can say is that they were clearly close, because when Seunghyun was going through his depressed hermit phase in 2013, the only person he was going out with was John Lee. He even went with him to Lee Byung-hun's wedding in August 2013. From what I've read through Asian websites, it was speculated that Seunghyun was hanging around older gay actors/people in the film and TV industry around this year - allegedly, these men were either choosing to remain single or to have public relationships with women to hide potential scandal (in fact, I've seen Lee Jung-jae's name be thrown around as one of these men, but I'm not going to comment on that). Chances are, John Lee became kind of an older, likely queer mentor figure to Seunghyun, and whether they had anything potentially romantic or sexual happen during the GTOP break up in 2013 is up to you to decide how much you believe in it or not 🤷
