Bloodymary in Umora (Worlds Beyond Number)

The Worlds Beyond Number kickstarter starting tomorrow means I’ve been thinking about how I can shove Simon and Ryland into the world of Umora, obviously. This post is for me and me alone probably but I’m sharing it anyway lol

Some spoilers for The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One ahead

In my head, Ryland has to be a wizard of the Citadel. His name cloak name is still up for debate, but I’m leaning towards either Saint or Strand (Yes, it has to start with an S). 

Saint is one I’m not sure he’d give himself, but would take on if someone he cared about suggested it. I also just like the idea of Simon taunting him about it when they meet.

Strand is a few different things. Strand like a string (of fate/within a larger tapestry). Strand like stranded. Strand like a loose strand of hair or a loose string on the previously mentioned tapestry that one can pull at to unravel.

I think Ryland gets his name cloak, then ends up meeting Rocky (Who, of course, is a spirit) out in the wild on some mission or something. The encounter changes his perspective and opens his eyes to some of the corruptions within the citadel. One way or another, he gets excommunicated or runs away from the Citadel to find the Antivoli.

Simon’s an antivolist because that just makes sense to me. I want to elaborate, but frankly, we don’t know enough about the Antivoli in canon for me to explain further. Maybe one day I’ll come back around to this.

@moss-cosplay suggested the idea of Ryland assuming that The Wizard Simon is also an ex-Citadel wizard because his name starts with an S lmao. Might write that scene later, but for now, this is what you get.

Back with more bc we (@moss-cosplay and I) kept talking and had more thoughts (and also thank you to y’all that already engaged with the first post!! I’m glad literally anyone else is interested in this :3)

I do think I’ll stick with The Wizard Strand for Ryland!

The way I see it, the plot of WWWO is still happening but I like the idea of Stratt being who we may have thought Steel was before the reveal. Because my thing is that I think they’re very similar but their cores are different. Steel prioritizes the Citadel bc she thinks it’s what’s best for humanity and Stratt prioritizes humanity and life in a much less twisted way. Stratt plays along with the Citadel but sees through the Citadel’s bullshit and is waiting for the right time to make the right moves.

She’s also high up in the Citadel in some way and works with Steel, but I obviously don’t know the full hierarchy and every position there is so that’s a wip lol

Also I think Stratt chooses Strategy as her name cloak bc yeah it feels right and is also funny.

Ava…… Ava Ava Ava

I like the idea of Ava as a witch but she can’t be a great witch so I’m not committed to the idea. I just wanna fit her in bc I love her

Also Elli is a Great Spirit Obviously. She and Simon have some fucked up history that I haven’t defined but she basically haunts him and he loves spirits in spite of that. I think he looks at Elli, looks at the Citadel, and goes “even you don’t deserve that”.

Please feel free to share more ideas if you have any! I want this thought to live in my brain forever until wwwo comes back and I can actually do something with this after learning more about the Antivoli

Think some BloodyMary thoughts with me:

I’ve been thinking of those fancy Eridian celebration clothing designs for Grace, yes?

Consider, it’s the classic BloodyMary story; story of their life on Erid, they end up together, are together for years, absolutely mad for each other.

Rocky and Grace take a walk on the beach one day and Grace asks him,

“Y’know, you guys have been so generous over the years and the biodome is just… it’s amazing. And you’ve mastered textiles for humans which is incredible… We’re both really grateful”

[“Yes, Eridians learn much to love and care for Grace. Take knowledge and use to care for Simon too. Is very simple.”]

“I know I haven’t needed to ask for anything like an adjustment or addition for the dome or something specific for one of us for a while, since you guys do so well, but uh… so- y’know how you have your mate rings on your arm?”

[“Adrian Rocky greatest love. Can never forget.”]

“On earth we don’t do the markings necessarily, but we do get rings to put on our fingers to represent eternal love for another…”

Rocky pauses, chirps, takes a few steps as if to turn to Grace. [“Friend Grace need ring for Mate Simon?”]

“Ha… I mean- I guess, yes, but on a note of it being a possibly bigger burden- after the other partner accepts the proposal… to be, uh, permanent mates- we call it ‘marriage’ - there’s a ceremony where you give each other the rings and make promises to always love and care for the other for the rest of your lives,” Grace looks sort of wistfully over the waves, lost in thought as he speaks, twisting the skin of his ring finger as if there’s something there to fiddle with. He plops down in the sand and sighs. “It’s a really special moment for humans in our culture and… well it’s not something I thought I’d ever have any chance to do. Same probably goes for Simon.”

He knows he’s starting to ramble when Rocky settles in his little tucked loaf next to him. But his friend listens.

Grace continues. “I haven’t… I haven’t asked yet. I wanted to talk to you first because,” he sighs. “If he does say yes- which, he might not, but if he does- we wouldn’t need much but I think I’d want to try to have a small ceremony. At least with you and Adrian and our friends who help you take care of us.”

Rocky is trying very hard to listen but Grace can hear involuntary excited sounds coming from deep within his carapace. It’s similar to a cat purring but far more musical than a low vibration. It has a similar effect too, calming. It’s making Grace feel a little less anxious to ask for such a luxury. “All that to say, I’d have to ask for some things that I can’t get on my own. A ring for one but also, if this were to happen…” he sort of half smiles. “Do you think you’d be able to make us some celebration clothes for that kind of ceremony, kind of like you had back on Mary? But, y’know, human shaped…”

Rocky, chitters and chirps, unable to stay seated any longer, spinning in a circle, clicking his fingers and shaking them in jazz hands. [“Grace Simon have human marriage! Amaze! Amaze! Ama-“]

“Rock, don’t yell, he’ll hear you! Also, I’m not totally sure, I haven’t asked him yet.” Grace shushes his friend playfully.

He softens his song but his physical performance of the elation continues to be robust. [“Adrian will be so excited. We will make most beautiful celebration clothes for Grace Simon Marriage! Make best rings for Grace Simon fragile squishy human fingers! I go tell Adrian now!”]

He runs his fingers over the ridges of his arm for maybe, half a second before running off back to where he’ll find his mate, leaving Grace on the beach without another word.

Grace is so grateful for his friend’s generosity. Now he just has to do the scary part.

Rocky gets to do the fun part.

The Petrova Line is a beam of energy that appears on Earth out of nowhere and suddenly gives a small number of people unnatural abilities. Grace has gyrokinesis, which he's terrified of using, and Simon has haemokinesis, which he is definitely not terrified of using lol. Rocky is a robot! And the SM-13 is a van, because I'm apparently incapable of not making an au without turning at least one sci-fi vehicle into a van...

Listening to new Conan Gray songs gave me an angsty bloodymary idea that needs to get out of my head, so here you go:

Okay so imagine these two disasters meet and quickly end up in a Deeply Unhealthy codependent relationship. They think being together will fix everything but in reality neither of them have dealt with any of their trauma. This results in a disastrous breakup and they try to avoid each other as much as possible (which mostly means Simon holing himself away from the world in a separate house from Grace).

One day though (after however long you deem angsty enough), Grace goes to talk to Simon and asks if they can start over as friends.

Simon’s a siren who reluctantly gets little-mermaid-ed, Ryland’s a young King whose only true friend is a rock, and Rocky’s here as a (smaller) magical rock because I said so.
