it’s been a helluva long time since she’s had to have a first new day at work. even through all the greetings, exploring the new barracks, speaking with her captain, the butterflies are still popping off. they’ve let up throughout the day as she’s gotten accustomed but are still lingering since there’s one person her captain said she’d run into eventually. given the description, the girl she’s run into on the way to her officer fits the bill, a very adorable bill.

So much has changed. Still changing. Seeing Lisa back among the Gotei--as her Captain. It sent a jolt of excitement. But also worry. Miyako always had trouble adjusting to change--and after the War, well. What else could you expect. Someone needed to take the Lieutenants place--She heard it wasn’t even someone from within their division. So a face she’s never seen. It made her gut tighten with worry. Someone she’d be working closely beside as the Divisions third seat.

The voice halts her thoughts for a moment, and Miyako has to look up.

“That’s me.”

sentimentality isn’t their norm, her norm. it’s got to sneak out every now and again for everyone, surely they’ve got a pass for such a chaotic situation that’s rippled through the entire seireitei. everything is so raw for everyone just not herself, both wounds and mourning. perhaps it isn’t the best for her to be out of the infirmary but being outside is the only way she feels she can ironically escape looking death in the face.

It’s good to see you. He almost doesn’t hear Akane, when did that ringing in his ears start? Riki has to blink, slowly. A squint at the burning of ceiling lights. Who does he have to pester to get those dimmed. A hand raises, patting around his thighs, his pockets. Fuck, they took his cigarettes. What the hell is he supposed to do now? Riki just tilts his head, staring at Akane through the corner of his eye. He probably looks like shit. Definitely feels like it. “Glad yer alive.” This is about as far as he goes when it comes to sentimentality.

well, she’s about given up on this whole getting him to smile thing. is the way she’s going about it sorta obnoxious? yes but like… so? the jokes didn’t work nor did other comedic timings of things throughout the day so resorting to pushing up his cheeks with her index fingers to force a smile is the last line of offense here. it’s cute but it’s not working. not only is it not working, it’s artificial! riki, you’re killing her.

And here he is just...Oblivious to it all. An unlit cigarette hangs between his lips, arms crossed lazily. There’s this...Blank, almost unaware look on his face. As neutral this constantly frowning expression can get. Riki blinks, brows furrowed as he just stares down at her.

“--Th’hell am I pretending about?” Oh dear. He’s an idiot.

Lips part to response, and her throat goes dry. Just say yes. It’s that easy. “I...Suppose.” Ah, she hopes she can count on Sayu--please be her wingman. “I can’t let Fukunaga have all the fun--” That’s too much, reel it back. “Er. I mean, the fun of being able to train with you, of course! There’s so much to learn..From you. Lieutenant Hinamori.” Or just crash and burn, that’s okay too.
