Lukanette vs. Adrinette. Discuss.
This has been sitting in my drafts since the other day because it felt like an assignment of sorts butā¦ okay, Professor Anon. Iāll turn in my assignment.
Before I start, Iād like to say that while I think Lukanette is actually adorable, I donāt actively ship it (yet). Iām getting there. Soooo I might be a bit biased towards Adrienette???? Iāll try not to be. ; w;
One thing Iāve noticed, after watching Captain Hardrock and thinking about Marinetteās feelings for either boy, is that her initial encounters with them are veeeeeeery similar, even up until the moment she āfellā for them. Lukaās is a bit condensed because of the little time we had with him, but the progression is the same.
Let me break it down for you:
In Origins, she meets Adrien and doesnāt think much of him. In fact, she downright put him in the same category as Chloe, which, as we know, in Marinetteās eyes thatās like the worst category you could be in.
In Captain Hardrock, she doesnāt like/dislike Luka right off the bat, more like nervous at being caught staring while he meditated, but she definitely didnāt think he was all that when he teased her about her stutter.
(btw, luka is so cute in this scene and if you dont think so you can fight me)
In both scenes, Marinette looks so disappointed/sad rather than angry, because she is a soft baby bean like that.
Next, Adrien apologizes to her and explains his circumstances. Marinette starts to view him in a better light because of this.
The same thing happens with Luka. He immediately apologizes, explains heās bad with words, and soothes Marinette with music. She relaxes after that and engages in a bit of conversation, already on friendly terms.
Though Adrien skips right over the Friendly Conversation part and straight into OMGWTFHECUTEjdshfkfk;lshs for Marinette, the order is still more or less the same.
Lastly, we all know The Scene. The umbrella scene. Adrien hands Marinette his umbrella in the middle of the pouring rain, and SHE IS A GONER. They share a cute moment where Marinette showcases her clumsy side and they both have a giggle about it.
For Luka, itās the moment he gives her the Jagged Stone guitar pick. TheĀ āsweetā music even kicks in right at that moment. He then lightheartedly teases her aboutĀ āthe grooveā and then when she freaks out, he tells her sheās funny, implying that he doesnāt really mean his teasing in a bad way. Notice that she doesnāt start acting all melty until after this scene.
Both Adrien and Luka turn around after this, leaving Marinette to marinade in her teen hormones going haywire.Ā
Marinette has one weakness: kindness. When these two boys flipped their initial impressions of themselves and showed her their kind, accepting sides, she gets done in. Both boys also give her something (umbrella/guitar pick), possibly as a token of their apology, even though technically neither of them did anything wrong.
There are lots of instances in which Marinette gets touched by kindness even with other characters sheās not romantically interested in (ie Nathaniel/Evillustrator) but itās notable how this particular progression is present in both Adrienās and Lukaās first meetings with her.
To make Marinette fall for you, there is a certain formula you have to follow, apparently.Ā š Sorry, Nath, Nino, Chatā¦
That being said, itās no question that Adrienette has a lot more weight. If Lukanette becomes canon, it will probably be just for a short while. Both ships are cute af regardless, and I think if I venture into the Lukanette tag I might just actually ship it so Iām kinda avoiding it for nowā¦ butā¦ yeah.
