It kind of made me sad that nobody THANKED Sam for what he did.

Obviously, we all know it ended up being a bad thing (i.e. freeing Lucifer), but can we just take a moment to appreciate what Sam was willing to do for his loved ones, and the world?

He didn’t like doing it.  He continually told Ruby earlier in the season that it felt wrong to him.  But as far as Sam knew, Lilith was going to start the Apocalypse, and the only way to defeat her was for him to go down this path.

Sam always hated the part of himself that was inhuman.  But in spite of that, he proceeded to sacrifice his own humanity because he thought it would save the world.  He was willing to become a monster, to be condemned to Hell, to be hated and scorned by those he loved, if it meant he could save them.

In my opinion, I think this is the most noble sacrifice made in the entire show.  And absolutely no one recognized it as such.  And Sam, in his beautiful humility, apologized and asked for forgiveness, for an act that he had undertaken for the benefit of those to whom he was apologizing.

Ugh, Sammy…  You’re too precious for this world.  ;P
