independent, highly selective bruce wayne of the 2021 batman movie with heavy influences from 1980s-present day comics. written by sunny.Â
alright weâre gonna give this q headcanon a go
q is a man who came into his position not because his predecessor retired, but because he was - we assume - killed in the mi6 blast. this young man who, presumably, was angling for a job as quartermaster, or something like it, found himself as one of the most important members of mi6 overnight.
a breach in cybersecurity was what got q his job, essentially, so it was only natural that M/Tanner/whoever decided to hire him brought in a cybersecurity whiz kid. the problem is that silvaâs still out there. and q isnât the field agent type. and thereâs only so much he can do in his fancy new office with his fancy new interns. silva escapes. first mission in and heâs already been outsmarted. excluding everything that results from silva being Like That, that alone is enough to shake q up.
itâs M dying that gets him, though. thereâs a little guilt complex there that he doesnât really need to have. he probably feels worse about Mâs death than even james does. heâs not used to the death, after all. the woman whoâd taken a chance on him, given him the job, gone in one fell swoop. all because q was outsmarted.
itâs good, in a way, though, because it sticks in qâs head. all his mistakes - aka why heâs back using some more basic run-of-the-mill computers in spectre - wonât be made again. heâs gotten the first death out of the way. on the other hand, he hangs onto it just a little bit too eagerly. perfectionism goes a step too far, and he stays just that little bit longer in the office to make sure thereâs absolutely no holes that can be exploited. he pushes himself to be even better because when heâs not at the top of his game, like everyone else in mi6, things go wrong. and for all the staff of mi6 look out for him, itâs his job to look out for them; he takes deaths personally
in short: it was one of the few times in recent memory that he felt vulnerable, that he felt his age, that he lived up to what everyone elseâs first impressions were. itâs absolutely not a feeling he enjoyed, yet he always lingers on it whenever anything might go wrong
anyone that q actually respects: says that theyâre proud of him, that heâs smart, generally compliments him q: oh no my cocky young spymaster facade is slipping-

âOh no, we canât have you stuck with any chatty old ladies. Just this one.â She teases with a smile. She does a quick glance around his room to make sure he hasnât forgetter anything before he heads out on his mission. She wished for nothing more than to go with, if not for the fact that then sheâd be on a proper mission for once and not just a hectic coffee run, but also to genuinely look after him. She cared far too much for her âstalkerâ now to let anything happen to him.
âOh, youâre brilliant, you. Thatâll be great. Should make things a bit easier while youâre away then. Iâll still send you a long detailed text at the end of my day to fill you in on all the daily complaints I have about my boss and his boss and the latest antics from any double-ohs. And the cats, of course.â Though how sheâd manage housesitting with the little fur balls would be another story. âPromise I wonât burn this place down in the meantime. Iâll be getting takeout so that wonât even be a problem. Wonât have to worry at all about us while youâre out there saving the world.â
The cats. Christ, heâd almost forgotten about them. His mind was evidently too fixated on his task at hand to worry about his feline companions, though he was fairly certain that they warranted far less worry than his colleagues did. A few torn up wires could be replaced, after all. âIâll look forward to reading them... Once Iâve got my own phone back, mind you. Secure channels only, burner phones once Iâve landed. For all that M has faith in my cybersecurity prowess, Iâd rather not have it put to the test against a room full of the worldâs most notorious hackers.â A joke, yes, but also a slight insight into his anxiety about this whole thing.
âConsider me properly reassured, then. And fully packed, too, if Iâm not mistaken.â The lack of suits and cardigans might have suggested the opposite, but he was a fairly scraggly man in his own right; far wiser to play that up if he was going to avoid suspicion. The young Quartermaster huffs a sigh and plucks his glasses from his eyes, rubbing at one with his knuckle. âI donât suppose youâd like to join me on the car ride to Heathrow? I believe Eveâs driving, and Iâm not sure if I can handle her well-intentioned small-talk by myself.â
The quiet little moments
@the-immortals-assistant (about 8 years later) from here
Given that he hadnât been able to torment Joe properly in years, thereâs an anticipatory shiver that rolls down his spine when Fish smiles. He does, naturally, miss the obvious playfulness of it all.
Nod gives way to a quirked brow, smile falling into something a bit more contemplative. âDepends on what kinda mischief youâre planninâ on gettinâ up to, doesnât it?â Heâs always had a bit of a âfollowerâ streak, though, behind all the youthful gusto, so it doesnât take much consideration for Tom to make up his mind.
âYeah, alright. Could do with somethinâ a bit more interesting than sittinâ around doing nothinâ... Iâm in.â
as i sit here waiting for tony hawkâs pro skater to download allow me a crack headcanon about modern!tom who tried skateboarding once, failed, but proceeded to act like he could actually skateboard. when asked to show off his skills, he put the board down, sat on it, and then rode down a hill where he fell off like a quarter of the way down and said, âsee, i got road rash. real sk8r boiâ
theresastargirlâ:
âThen weâre back in 20 years time when a different set of humans mess things up. Not these. Iâm sure youâve scared them to death of ever thinking of doing wrong again.â And she knew if she ever received that look and tone directed at her, sheâd straighten up her behavior immediately. âBut weâve got a time machine. Weâve got the luxury of picking when to come back to fix the next mess cause itâs inevitable, isnât it? Thatâs part of being human.â
Ophelia bit the inside of her cheek, glancing back at the few survivors before her hands were fidgeting with the hem of her jumper slightly. âItâs what I learned while being stuck here. While I was meant to blend in and I was scared and alone and Rassilon bloody knows how many times I messed up and how many times I probably will too in the future. We canât get it all right. Thatâs just impossible.â She looked back up at him, shaking her head slightly.
âEven for Time Lords. Even for you.â
It was the part of being human that he begrudgingly appreciated. The fallibility that Time Lords never allowed themselves to accept, even when they were more fallible than most. But itâs the sort of thing that annoys him, too. The squandering of potential. The wasted learning opportunity. Phee knows him well, picks apart his inevitable arguments with ease, has him holding his tongue and casting a slightly-too-menacing look over his shoulder at the group of humans.
âSomebody needs tâget it right. Thatâs the point. Thatâs why we swoop in anâ teach âem how tâbe better versions of themselves, innit?â His ego was showing, but he didnât seem to care. The universeâs great teacher, the Doctor was, at least that was how he was framing himself. âIf theyâre doinâ the same thing in 20 years, 30 years, 30,000 years, then theyâre making the same mistake for nothinâ.â He knew the feeling, given his own age.
When he looks at Ophelia once more, his gaze softens minutely, his jaw unclenches just enough to take the edge off. He simply sighs. âNowt left for us tâdo here now... Iâm goinâ back tâthe TARDIS.â
Man I hate people who are like, super verbal about hating cats. NOBODY cares that you donât like cats. Also I think youâre a bitch ass
@theresastargirlâ from here
Hiding emotion from Tom was, unfortunately for Phee, harder than she mightâve hoped. It was one of the many things he had going for him: emotional sensitivity, empathy, a certain amount of stubborn self-sacrifice for the sake of people he cared about. If he was prone to dramatics, he likely wouldâve said something terribly dramatic about how the pain in their hearts drew them to each other. He wasnât actually that eloquent, though, so he settled for bringing their interlocked hands to his lips and placing a kiss haphazardly upon them.
He clears his throat, stops just short of a sigh as he gauges the best way to proceed. Glossing over it probably wonât help either of them, but itâs still probably the best way forward. âWe better. Iâd be fucked if I didnât have you here. Gross sobbinâ into a pintâa Ben & Jerryâs, or somethinâ like that.â
Slowly he allows a smile to creep onto his lips, allows the happiness and warmth back in. âSo much for uni beinâ a lovely getaway from normal life, hm? I think itâs gonna be oneâa those baking nights-â
theresastargirlâ:
âGod, no, but I donât want to keep patching you up either! The only perk of this is that I know thatâŠâ Her voice trails off, looking up at him. âI know that youâre not dead.â Ophelia stood up, gently working on taking off the suit from his upper half. âYouâve gotta make like⊠some safety straps, yeah? How are paramedics meant to help you out of this latex mess when Iâm not around? Theyâll ruin this cutting you out.â She has to joke about something right now before she lets her nerves take over. The sight of his bloody and bruised body beneath his suit only increased her anxiety every time he went out.
âFisk is done for then? Should I turn on the news and see you making headlines? Know this is all over then?â She had to hope that it was done so she could take a breather too. âYou said you could summon a swarm of spiders at one point. Canât you still do that? Infect a batch of superheroes and have them be your squad? Then you could take a night off.â She gently wiped away the blood, trying to get a better look at his wounds. âI canât bear to turn on the news and see that you wonât come home one night, PeterâŠâ
âThe point is that paramedics wonât ever cut this up. I canât- They canât know my face. They canât know who I amâ even the most well-intentioned help from those whose job it was to do so was too close to comfort for Pete. He wasnât taking any chances with those close to him.
Well, so long as one ignored how readily he tended to expose his identity to complete strangers-
The thought dies somewhere in his head as itâs replaced by sharp pain, the sting of a fresh wound being cleaned. He should be used to this by now, he thinks, but the criminals of this city sure had a way of throwing brand new types of pain his way every time they crossed paths. The next wince that pinches his features isnât a result of the pain. âIâll always come home. Iâm me. Without me thereâs gonna be a whole borough without a hero watching over itâ he shifts awkwardly, âIâll always come back. Canât leave May behind. Canât leave you behind. Canât leave Gwen behind. Too many people counting on me, yâknow?â Itâs not appeasement. Thereâs complete conviction in Peterâs promise, determination and stubbornness not unlike the sort that got him into this situation in the first place.
âAnd, I mean... S-someoneâs gotta be swinginâ around in a few months when Fisk inevitably breaks out, right?â
omniishamblesâ:
âYes, but the less you do, the quicker youâll heal.â Tobias replied, peering at the other man over his glasses as he held the door open for him. It was no good telling him that, though. Much too stubborn. Or perhaps it was just a matter of pride?
Either way, Tobias wouldnât have it.
âI havenât the slightest doubt that you can look after yourself, but thereâs no harm in a little help now and again. Whether you like it or not.â
For all that Tobias made a completely valid point, the rolling of Garethâs eyes was an instinctual response. Do less. Those words had faded from his vocabulary over the years. Regardless, he graciously stepped through the opened door, managed to hold his tongue until theyâd both passed through.Â
Tobiasâ genuineness wasnât enough to stop Garethâs sarcastic barb. If nothing else, it only encouraged him; at worst, it would earn him a glare
âIâm sure I look the type to enjoy being helped, donât I? The withering glare plastered on my face every moment of every day surely gives that impression.â A few moments of silent walking and the annoyance had passed, fizzled off into the air. âThank you, though. Itâs a bit of a rarity, people offering to help me. I suppose Iâm not used to it.â
