A promise. She would get their team back, whatever it took. Her and Daisy. They had no choice.Â
And then everything went black.
She awoke with a start, in a room sheâd never seen before. The lights were dim, but what she could make out was of little use for creating context. The bare essentials â blank walls, a bed, one long mug sat on a counter not ten feet away next to an electric kettle. At least Aida got that right.Â
What the hell was going on there? And where was Fitz?
Fitz. Her Fitz. The real ( well â as real as an avatar â the digital essence of a person can be â she was still working it out as she went along) Fitz. Not the one sheâd left behind. The one whose blood had spilt onto her hands â sticky, and warm.Â
Fitz.Â
She had to find him. Had to tell him â everything. Had to bring him home.Â
Shoes on, hoodie worn, skip the tea, and she was out the door. Once she found Fitz, they could figure all of this out. Put the pieces right. Sort this whole mess together, like they always did.Â
It didnât take long to realise things in the framework were⊠off. The more she walked, the deeper the pit in her stomach grew, and the stronger her need to find Fitz. It couldnât be right. Everything⊠Everything was Hydra.Â
Hood pulled up to hide her face (sheâd become well versed in incognito), she walked the streets for what felt like hours. She was about ready to turn around â head back to what passes as her apartment in the framework and formulate a proper plan â when she saw him.Â
âFitz!â she called, a mixture of relief and concern. LMD Fitz had made promises of marriage and forever, but there was no ring on her finger, no room for another person in her framework life. Best to be cautious. (Cautiously optimistic â who knew what turn their lives had taken in a Hydra ruled world). âThere you are, Iâve been on quite the wild goose chase.âÂ
Things might be different, but they were still them, right? Fitzsimmons, together in every reality.Â
âDid you make the morning meeting?âÂ
âYes, and everything is in order. Just like we planned. Iâll send you the data as soon as I hang up.I think youâll be pleased.âÂ
âGood. Talk to you later. Call your mum. She thinks Iâm overworking you.âÂ
âReally, she says the same thing about you. Iâll give her a call --- Talk to you later.â Â
Fitz ended the call, and immediately started sending th data from his earlier meeting to his father before setting a reminder for him to call his mum later that evening. Â Â
He froze midstep when he heard someone shout his name -- and his last name at that. No one that knew him personally called him that, and usually the people who did call him Fitz prefaced it with a Dr. Â Â
He let out a slow breath, his hand going to the gun he kept at his side and slowly turned to see who it was. He didnât immediately recognize her-- he was quite sure heâd never seen her face before and yet -- the way she looked at him felt so strange and familiar all at the same time and it wasnât a feeling he was particularly fond of. Â
âIâm sorry -- who are you?â He asks, his tone a bit cold, and suspicious despite deciding that she at least didnât look dangerous. She wasnât just some person who was a fan of his work either though -- at least, he didnât get that vibe. Â
âAnd why would you be hunting for me?âÂ
