“It has been a while, hasn’t it?” He glanced around to see if Narukami was going with him, a little disappointed to see he wasn’t. “I know you’re a pretty reliable kid, but I’m not gonna abandon you and make you go by yourself. I’ve gotta go grab my paycheck anyway, so I’ll go with you. We can grab a treat while we’re there.” The idea of a kid going shopping by themselves was just depressing. They needed a big bro or dad to buy them a treat at the end of the day.

“Wow, really? You’d get me a treat?” 

The child perked up at the mention of one. That made going to Junes a lot better, and best of all, he didn’t have to go alone now! 

“Dad’s been really busy with work, so I’ve had to go to Junes and get the groceries on my own.”

Somewhere out there, James Sunderland and his wife miss a couples’ therapy appointment.  Two snails marry.  Adachi kneels before the alpha and omega of what has come and gone, and reaches a hand out tentatively to hold the young boy’s hand.

This child is his son.

But can he make a hamburger bun large enough to place him gently inside?

Adachi asks for a hamburger. Tohru refuses to reciprocate. Adachi demands a lawyer. The boy reminds him harshly that this is the new world order. Lawyers no longer exist. Only papillons. 

Tohru Adachi’s name is written on a list of sins. Blasphemy.

Mass Effect 3 music plays muffled in the distance.  Adachi travels the sea of space in little Tohru’s eyes.  Things are awkward.  The Reapers are there.  Alistair waves in the distance.  A disturbed piece of salami slithers discontently beneath a hamburger bun.

Adachi puts a cabbage on Tohru’s head, balancing it there instead of answering.

Tohru disapproves. His disapproval sends ripples through the inter-dimensional void between life and death. A small child begins to cry as he walks toward the stairway where his father stands.

“Big bro... do I have a nice ass...?”

“At work, huh? Don’t you get bored or lonely? How about hanging out with friends?”

Being a single child must be hard when you have busy parents. She felt a bit sad seeing him all by himself.

“Um… would you like to see a magic trick? Only if you want though!”

“I... don’t really have any friends. It’s OK though. I’m used to being alone.” 

His eyes widened at the mention of a magic trick though.

“You... you can do a magic trick?! Really?! I wanna see!”

“Hi there! Ah… I don’t really need any help.”

That sounds really suspicious. The boy picked her interest. Well, she really likes playing with children and showing them magic trick. She couldn’t help herself to approach him.

“I was just wondering why you were all alone. Where’s your guardian?”

“My dad? He’s at work right now... I don’t mind being alone... so I take care of stuff around the house on my own.” 

The boy shuffled nervously, not sure if he should be telling her this.
