Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks has been a busy man. After recording TPC with the band in 2017, he was already taking those first steps towards his second solo record “On A Wave” which was released on October 18th. Monks stopped by Paste Studio to play some songs and talk about the new record.
It seems he was in the middle of a complete life change when he started writing songs for his solo project. A relationship had ended and he had moved from New York City back to Toronto. But there were a lot of ideas and music brewing in his head. Working with guitarist/significant other Alyson McNamara, the record slowly came together. If you haven’t had a chance, take a listen on your favorite streaming service.

If you miss the old days of don’t give a fuck punk, you have to go to a Starcrawler show. But buyer beware…if you’re near the stage, there is plenty of “band/crowd interaction”. You might get water poured on you, a band member may blow their nose over you, your glasses or hat may get thrown into the crowd, a band member may stand on or sit on your shoulders, or you may get blood (fake of course) spat on you. On October 25th, Starcrawler celebrated the release of their latest record “Devour You” (rel Oct 11) with a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
Opening for Starcrawler is Ohio band Dan Luke & the Raid, who also happened to release their debut album “Out of the Blue” on October 11th. The record is produced by Dan Luke’s brother, Bradley Schultz of Cage the Elephant. They definitely had their share of fans in the crowd who sang along to all their songs.

Nowadays, a mixtape means a completely different thing than it did back then but Marx plans to be a part of it as he will be releasing his first studio album in six years with “Limitless” on February 7th. With her new studio album “Champion” set to be released on November 8th, Bishop Briggs (aka Sarah Grace McLaughlin) kicked off the US leg of her Champion tour at Webster Hall in NYC. With three singles (“Champion”, “Tattoed on My Heart”, and “Jekyll & Hide”) already released, fans are eagerly awaiting the new record.
Opening for Briggs were singer/songwriters Jax Anderson (formerly Flint Eastwood) and Miya Folick. Both artists are high energy in keeping with the Bishop Briggs vibe.
