I am too intelligent, too demanding, and too resourceful for anyone to be able to take charge of me entirely. No one knows me or loves me completely. I have only myself.
Simone de Beauvoir, Tête-à-Tête (via wearyvoices)
Alejandro had spent a good hour and a half outside his brother’s, walking back and forth, debating on whether he should do this. Every fiber in his being told him no, and it was that fact alone that hurt him. He knew that he shouldn’t have been this way with his brother, especially because at one point, it was Justus that he was the closest with. It was Justus that, although wrong, he had considered his favorite, and now? Now Alejandro just didn’t have it in him anymore. To want to fight this war going on in his family, with his brother. As well as he knew that his brother had given up, Alejandro, himself, had as well. Something that he knew Justus believed was sooner than he had, but truth was, in New Orleans, Alejandro would’ve done anything, had even swallowed his pride more than he would’ve ever wanted to to fix this family. His family. Now? Now, he wasn’t in that place anymore, he knew that was probably wrong of him. But he wasn’t. He came to terms with what they were, and going in circles about it just wasn’t something he cared to do anymore. As he opened the door, and stepped in, his brother’s voice hitting him like a mullet to the temple, he brought his blue orbs onto his brother much more darker features. A small chuckle escaped his lips as the once blonde haired, blue eyed kid was now nowhere to be found. But nothing surprised him more than the response he got from his brother. It hurt him to admit to himself that he had expected something a little more hostile, but he quickly shook that thought off. Alejandro gave him a small shrug, “Beautiful town.” He answered, before letting his hues move down to the cuts on his brother’s chest and smotach. He almost didn’t hear Justus as his attention held on the damage. Once his statement sunk in, Alejandro looked at his brother’s features, and shook his head. “No.” He spoke, “That’s okay, food’s all yours. I’m not hungry.” Cocking a brow, “Tea?” He questioned, a smirk lingering on his features, “I wish that was the strangest thing I’ve heard or see all day, but sure – I’ll – take the tea.” He said, glancing down at his brother’s scars once more, he licked his lips, before inhaling sharply. “What happened?” He asked, looking up at his brother through thick eyes lashes, “Or am I not allowed to ask that?”
Usually he would just let his anger get the best of him but these few years had managed to do something to him. And by something he meant that he was able to get some peace of mind. Peace of mind meaning to accept that some people were not going to come home, and some things were never going to be rebuild. But that was just life. It didn’t matter all the questions that he had, like for instance he was never going to be able to ask Felicity or Alejandro had they remembered how much he had done for them? How it didn’t matter what the circumstances was how he would jump in front of them and always be on their side? How he had accepted Singer for Felicity and Christal for Alejandro? Why had they not protected Tabitha? These were some of the questions that he was never going to ask. Then there was that main question of whether did they ever love him and he knew that the answer was no so he didn’t waste any time with that. “That it is. Small and quiet -- at least it was till Roth decided to make a fucking bomb.” He stated rolling his eyes, he hated people like Roth -- people that reminded him of Jeremiah. He had managed to live in this town with his restaurant and not once had the witches annoyed him or pestered him until Roth decided to declare a war. A war that he was not going to conduct because the then eliminated himself. Smart but annoying, because now everyone was running around like a chicken that had managed to lose its head. “Are you sure about that? Well I don’t drink anymore -- beer has been taken out of the equation. Kind of something that I figured to do in order to get the status quo, you know?” He winced slightly pushing himself up as he finished wrapping the bandage over him and tucking the end in. Walking towards the kitchen he pulled the kettle off the stove top and grabbed two cups. “You can ask whatever you want. You live in a free country -- ever since 1776 -- well if you were white -- if you were another color then it was on a later date.” He chuckled at his history sense of humor. “Some witches are fucking with werewolves and vampires -- giving them magical powers such as having wolfsbane filtered claws -- not working cause they all die but not before attacking someone or something. Tonight was just my turn. I will never understand humans needs for a midnight snack.” Justus was trying to handle this better this time. Not cause he had some delusional idea that his brother and him would be better or get what they lost. But because Justus was tired of fighting, tired of always trying and caring so he stopped.
As the words fell off his lips, Austin just sat there and listened. He knew good and well that he wasn’t the only one to feel pain, that there had been worser evils out there. But that didn’t make it any less painful. Everyone had their own battles to face, but just because they seemed worse on the outside, didn’t mean others had more of a right to be upset. It wasn’t a competition, pain was pain and that was that. Regardless of what caused the pain, some people were still suffering. He felt bad, however, that Justus had to go through it all. That his family had gone through unimaginable situations and yet here some of them still were. It gave hope to him even - that at the end it would all be okay.. Which he sort of already knew. Austin knew Samantha would come back. He knew things would be okay, which was why he wasn’t giving up. He’d let her go, but he’d never stop helping her if she ever needed it. He’d never stop looking out his window and seeing if she was there, hesitating to knock on the door. She was his home, and it hurt like hell to not have her there. To see her go through all of this. “Sounds like no one has really had it that easy.” He commented, taking another sip of the drink. “I’m sorry you all had to go through that, but it’s nice to know some people can still make it out alive. Maybe not unscathed, but you’re here and that’s a plus.” He was holding on to that hope.. That it would all be okay one day and he’d have his life back. For now he just had to go through a few hurtles. “I know she’ll come back. I trust that.. and I’m not giving up on her. Letting her be for a little, yeah.. But not a day will go by where I won’t want to see her, and help her.”
Love really had been the one thing that Justus had excelled at while his other family members hadn’t. That all changed when they became Originals, when he was forced to do something he didn’t want to be but had no option. He rose up to the task, he did everything the witches asked from him. Was the good little solider and it was when he kept quiet about Christal and Alejandro that things started to change. Justus found himself making exceptions here and there and maybe that was when he started to lose himself. Perhaps that marked the start of his downfall because his love for his family drove him insane. He went to hell for Felicity and then saved Christal for Alejandro. Doing actions that betrayed everything he believed in for his family was why he was here now. Owning a restaurant that was successful and living in isolation, he was no fool. The witches knew where he was. After all they had located him after they had supposedly granted his freedom to murder his wife. So hiding from them was not something he wasted his time doing. “No one will ever have it easy, Austin. You’re a witch and you in the middle of a hell fire. Samantha is in pain and she is handling it how she can. Don’t judge her or it’s going to get ugly. Don’t belittle and don’t try to put her on the right path -- cause there is no right path. Sure she will come back and hate what she has done but she will come back home a lot sooner if she does it on her own. She has to let herself feel everything. She can run but emotions will catch up. They always did.” Justus knew that first hand, he had seen all his siblings go through that. And though Justus never did go as far as they all had when the lost it, he did managed to say and do things he shouldn’t had. “If you want to help her then -- don’t play god. Don’t put yourself on a pedestal cause she will never come to you like that. She’ll be too ashamed. ”
At his words Lily began to happily munch away at the food on her plate. While she’d been raised in high society to be a perfect society darling she was still a wolf at her very core and sometimes the facade was just more then she could take.. Smirking at him as she swallowed yet another big bite. “Well I do appreciate it, this place is usually pretty steady at this hour, what did you do scare them all off?” Lily teased glancing around the room once more. “Or was it my eating?” She joked with a guilty look on her face. “Yes that’s so.” She remarked back with a grin. “I sadly eat among them far more then I like, the snooty high society snobs who pick at their salads and only talk about how evil carbs are. Being a skinny bitch sounds exhausting.” She laughed shaking her head.
The blonde that was sitting in front of him didn’t look like she belonged here. There was a huge variation of people that did come into his restaurant. He didn’t discriminate at all. That was just not something that he did. Justus had learned throughout the years and decades to not do that. He used to hate vampires -- Christal Adler being the main one because how she had managed to trap his brother, or at least that was how he had seen it but the war in New Orleans, opened his eyes. Made him see that he shouldn’t judge people cause it would get ugly really quickly. Everyone was useful if they put their differences aside -- it was such a silly lesson but one that the wolf had just managed to learn. “That it is. Told them to get lost or they were going to help me with the dishes.” He appreciated the sense of humor, especially since he had managed to have a heavy day -- his sister back in town managed to pull a cloud over his head. “I was going to tell you -- never seen you around here. We don’t seem like your type. We common folks just stuff or faces and love carbs -- we actually honor them.” He smiled glancing at the blonde, it was funny how he called himself common. His pack had managed to be in the royalty of packs but Justus disowned his family and walked away from it all.
“I generally like to think I’m good with people and I don’t think that was the problem. Sure she had a tendency to ramble a bit but it was all interesting and I haven’t crossed paths with her until recently. Though I think she does make a habit of going to the most crowded cafes in town. And apparently I’m always that asshole who takes the last empty table for a party of one. From what I’ve seen Charleston’s even more unpredictable. I had no idea what I was signing up for when I came here. Apparently freak snow storms and bomb blasts are just a few of the wonders this town has to offer. Hey I’m all about becoming bros and I’ll even bring you toothpaste should you land yourself in jail. I try not to piss people off and I think so far I’m doing an okay job. Though a few of the drunks in town don’t like that I cut them off so maybe I do have a few enemies. But for the most part I try and get as far away from danger as I can. Guess if you’re right I’m a dying species though evolution technically should say otherwise.”
“I think we all like to think that. Even the most antisocial people in the world like to think that they are not that bad when it comes to people. But I think that doesn’t matter because like many people say the proof is in the pudding right? We tend to go off by how many people do we know and how many friends or followers we have on these media things now in days. That she does and she loves to talk about everything and everyone. So just be careful. Cause you know what they say -- small town, huge hell or something like that. Charleston is just full of surprises. Not my favorite town in the world but it is not the worst. I am sure there are some that are ten times worse. Like for instance no one wants to be Juarez at the moment -- the whole drug and sex slave thing is huge there. Especially for Americans. Thank you for that but I doubt my teeth will be my biggest issue when it comes to jail but hey at least you do care about dental. Most people worried about -- I don’t know, staying alive? Not dropping the soap and other silly things like that. Good job for that. People that run away from danger then to be thrown at it the most. Something I have learned. Yep”
“A chef,” the brunette eyed him, shock written on her features. “Well, you’re going to have to cook for me one of these days. Don’t worry, handsome. I’m not asking you out on a date. I’ll pay for your time and service,” she teased. Frankly, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d eaten an home cooked meal. After spending many years on the road, your diet became whatever quick meal you could get your hands on. Wether that be take out, or frozen meals at the super market. She could almost feel her mouth watering at the thought of something that didn’t come in cardboard. “You’re right. It takes a special kind of person to be a badass. I’m just a rare breed,” she spoke through the smile that tugged at her lips. “I’m not sure if you’re referring to me being a criminal or not. I do tend to eat a lot, but I wouldn’t say that I get hungrier than normal folks. I do know my limit.”
Besides Tabitha cooking had become the only constant that he had in his life. Most of the time when he had been engaged, no matter how short that had been, he was the one in the kitchen. Even when he had a pack to lead he always made sure to serve Tabitha the best plates that he could. “Maybe one day.” Everything really had become one day maybe one day the witches would remove the Original status he fucking had and let him die in peace. Maybe one day he wouldn’t have to wake up and know that half of him was missing. He was dealing with the loss of everything a lot better than a few years ago. Guess the key item to everything was just caring a little less and allowing himself to not be brought to his knees by the closest people around him. “Think we both are not the kind to do dates and the cliches of modern dating. Though isn’t modern dating that we don’t talk? Unless via text and chat rooms?” He joked, the dating world had indeed changed. Whatever happened to letters and romance? “Not at all. Just tell me if you want or need something. Chef and owner by the way. But apparently the flu is going around and everyone is calling in sick.’
It took her three weeks longer than she had expected but Athena finally managed to find an affordable apartment near the hospital. Whether she was more excited to be out of the shady motel she had been staying or because her new place was rather close to her sister’s was anyones guess. Probably, most likely, definitely the latter. The down side to finally finding a place however was the hassle of moving in but luckily she had been able to sucker one of her new friends into helping her. Turning around with paint brush in hand Athena gave a thankful smile. “Thanks again for helping me fix up this place.”
Helping Athena move in was not part of the plan. But Everett had told him to trust the witch and though their friendship was not one that books should be written about they were friends. They could be dysfunctional and fucked up individuals but they did care about each other. That was not something that Justus would admit any time soon but here he was helping her out. Even if he did have a distaste for witches, since it was their fault that he was the way he was. Theirs and his fucking siblings and their need to get revenge. The Adolph family had been ruined and now it was Justus just surviving alone. Grabbing the broom he held it together up with both his hands before breaking it into two, “Oops? -- but yeah sure you’re welcome. It’s not like i didn’t have you pestering me for hours in the restaurant and this was the only way to get you to shut up.”
Baby werewolves and fucking council members were going to be his fucking death. Justus managed to get back home as he pulled his bloody shirt off he looked down and saw the injuries that he had managed to obtain. They were healing but they needed sometime, especially since these werewolves had managed to get some magic in them, making them different from the normal ones. This was the price of new things coming out of the council. He wondered when they were going to stop being idiots. As he sat down on his bed he heard the door open, he knew that scent. Just fucking great he said in his head, he had already dealt with Felicity and now here was Alejandro. Why couldn’t the people that he actually liked come? Like Thea or Preston? Why did life have to murder his wife and child and then force him back into this Original lifestyle just to throw him with the two people he wanted nothing to do with. He let his fingers curl into his palm as he held a fist mostly to fight back the pain and then looked back up at Alejandro’s blue hues. How far had they come, he once sought the approval of those eyes. Once actually wanted to make him proud and now he didn’t feel anything. There was no anger or resentment, just disappointment, but that was better left unsaid. “Welcome to Charleston. Enjoying your stay so far?” He wasn’t going to fight. He already did that a lot with fucking Everett cause he was against lying to Felicity even though that woman lied to him more than anyone else. Not to mention the council members and fucking packs that he was sent to control. “I just ordered Chinese so I suppose I can share that with you. Have some tea -- gave up the beer a long time ago.” alejandroadolph
“Do you remember the way that you ran across the meadow field? How you would stand as I chopped wood and you would tell me that one day we would get marred? How I would say that I would rather marry the ginger maniac female before I ever allowed myself to commit such a terrible act as marrying you? But there you were everyday. You even bandage the wounds that my father caused. Remember when he placed my hand inside a boiling water pan? Or how he managed to wait for the full moon so that he could throw arrows into me? I was never perfect but you kept staying. I told you to get away. I pushed you to leave. I even made sure that my parents got you suitors that would make sense but you would turn them all down. Driving them away with your feminist talk and your wit. Then it happened -- do you remember when it happened? Cause I remember it as if it had happened just yesterday and not a thousand years ago. I was going to run away and not many know about that. I had everything pack and it was midnight and I had managed to dose my entire family so they wouldn’t wake up and you stood outside the in front of the campfire. The flames made you appear like an angel. Not appear cause if we’re honest you were a angel. You were my salvation. Then you asked me what would I risk for you -- and I said everything. Then you changed the question and asked me what would I risk for myself and I said nothing. Then your face changed to disappointment, and I don’t know if you understand this but I had grown up with disappointment my entire life. No one has ever told me that they are proud of me. That I have done something good -- how can they? I was created to kill. Created to be the last call when there was no savaging a situation but even with all the disappointment that I have had. Even with where I stand with my personal relationships nothing will ever ache like it did when your delicate rose lips frowned. Because I believe that was the first time you realized that I held myself to no respect. Then you started to talk but you stopped yourself. You didn’t pursue some bullshit logic but just said ‘That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard,’ which you follow with asking me if I always wanted to be a sad story and I swear no one had ever asked me what I wanted. They all assumed and thought they knew the best. I told you no and we both said it at the same time, then change it. And I did. We did. Then you got murdered when I was suppose to be at home taking care of the pack. Taking care of you. Then you were brought alive and I thought maybe just maybe my family would do me the favor of protecting you but they just let you die again. Then it happened again, Tabs. I became the worst version of myself. I let the cancer take every will I had of living. I let life shape me into someone I didn’t. Which meant just going with my anger and letting it guide me. Then I traded my soul -- and because I didn’t -- and wont’ be telling Felicity nor Alejandro that Christal and Everett are very much alive the witches let you come back. We had a son -- Alex -- and I know that he is doing well with you. I knew that the time we had was going to be little and I don’t regret my choices. I just hope that you two are living it up there. I saw Felicity again and I swear I wanted to do so much more than I did cause Felicity doesn’t hold any respect nor emotional ties to me. No one in that family does but man did my anger go up but all I thought was about you. The kind of man that I should be and I walked out. Didn’t even slam the door. The restaurant is doing well actually. Managed to get in the top ten places of the state. President Obama has come and tried the tacos. I just want you to know that I am doing ok. I am not falling apart. I love you, Tabitha. Wait for me, happy Mother’s Day. Forever and always”
Right now, I feel like I have… A bed and a house. And it is so good.
“Before you give me a dirty look or start judging me, it’s water. I just like drinking shit out of a fancy glass.”
“Really? Who do you think is going to buy that”
